In a radio interview on Monday, potential 2012 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee repeatedly claims that President Obama grew up in Kenya.
A spokesman for Huckabee later told CBS News that the former Arkansas governor misspoke.
In an interview on WOR's "The Steve Malzberg Show," Huckabee made reference to Mr. Obama's "having grown up in Kenya" and spoke of him growing up "with a Kenyan father and grandfather" - despite the fact that Mr. Obama grew up largely in Hawaii and barely knew his father at all.
In responding to Malzberg's question about whether "we deserve to know more about this man" and his origins, Huckabee responded that "I would love to know more."
"What I know is troubling enough," Huckabee said of the president. "And one thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, very different than the average American."
A spokesman for Huckabee later said the former governor "meant to say the President grew up in Indonesia."
In the interview, Huckabee also pointed to the fact that Mr. Obama in 2009 returned a bust of Winston Churchill to the British Embassy, describing the act as "a great insult" to the British. (He did not mention that the bust had been on loan.)
Obama’s people would certainly try to hang the Huckster over the gaffe if he got nominated as the GOP candidate. But I think he fairly reflects the attitude of a lot of conservatives — Obama came and put them in a confused daze, call it DKDC — don’t know, don’t care.
Obama didn’t grow up in Kenya. He hasn’t grown up period. He’s an emotional immature narcissistic child in a mans body.
This will be pretty damaging for Huckabee. It can’t be passed off as a simple misspeak because he elaborated with the comments about growing up in Kenya forming Obama’s attitudes toward the Brits.
Definitely a significant negative for Huck.
well at least Huckabee is going in the right direction instead of trying appease Obama like he was doing with his food comments. This did take me by surprise. Also glad he likes Herman Cain. I do too.
There’s a sin worse than ignorance, and that’s not wanting to improve upon the situation.
As he grew up physically in Indonesia, Hawaii, and other places, Obama also identified emotionally with Kenya. It would be an easy mistake to make. I hope Huck gets the details clear, soon.
Kenya - Indonesia. An easy mistake to make considering Obozo’s birth father was from Kenya, while his step-father was from Indonesia.

Had he said “Indonesia” he’d be clear. If he said “Cambodia” he misspoke. But Kenya, he’s toast.
Maybe it was on one of the previous dozen threads about this.
This is a pretty good timeline of Obama’s life (in three parts):

Obama is likely to win the next election, and this is why.
Republicans need to stop this nonsense. Obama did not grow up in Kenya and he was not born in Kenya.
Americans are not stupid. For heavens sake, attack the man’s policies, attack his association with Rev. Wright - but please stop this Kenya nonsense.
Are Republicans telling America that the son of an American mother and a Kenyan father does not have the right to American citizenship?
Many of us are conservative, but have African parents - does that make us less American? What is wrong with Kenya? (I went there last year, it is a lovely place).
Why do Republicans despise African people? Yes, we appear sub-human to you, many of our children starve and many of our leaders are tribalistic buffoons.
But does that mean that nothing good ever came out of Africa? Does it mean that you must dig up silly stories about the Mau Mau? (The Mau Mau fought against illegal occupiers in Kenya - the British. It wasn’t pretty, but the neither are most liberation struggles).
If Obama does not feel comfortable with a bust of Churchill, I understand that perfectly. If Churchill locked-up my grand daddy and Churchill’s men called my 50 something year old grand daddy “boy”, I wouldn’t want his mug near me.
I agree. But I remember reading on one of our threads that Obama is actually only about 1/8th Black African? He’s mostly Caucasian and Arab; that’s if “Senior” is his father.
I can find that thread!
Obama might identify emotionally with Kenya, but Huckabee doesn’t. Huckabee provided far too much detail that could only relate to Kenya for this to have been a simple slip of the tongue. Post #13 lists the detailed remarks so I won’t repeat it. If he meant to say Indonesia, then all that detail doesn’t fit with Indonesia.
Yeah, the octomaroon. But somehow his melanin content survived that genetic dilution and he goes as “black.”
Huckabee erred by assuming the Kenyan-conceived Obama actually spent significant childhood time in Kenya.
I think you can take Obama out of Kenya but you can’t take Kenya out of Obama — that’s because he (and his communist mentors) made sure that Kenya was in this painfully rootless boy.
You said: “...and he goes as ‘black.’”
His ploy was very convenient. It got him elected.
Sorry to say.
I think Huck, bless his little heart, was referring to barry the bastard’s espoused daddy, Barack senior. oTherwise, Hucjabee is further into his hardening or the arteries than we could have imagined! ... Which begs the question, ‘who is Lucy to be shuffling this deck?’
About time Huck said something intelligent.
