Obama Jumps Back in Wisconsin Fight

“I don't think it does anybody any good when public employees are denigrated or vilified, or their rights are infringed upon."

-- President Obama speaking to the members of the National Governors’ Association

President Obama and his administration have jumped back into the fray on the Wisconsin budget stalemate on the side of protesting workers and fugitive Democratic lawmakers.

In his remarks to the nation’s governors gathered at the White House, Obama volunteered his concerns that public employees were being “denigrated or vilified” and cautioned against infringing upon their rights.

That follows weekend remarks by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, who the Washington Examiner reports fired up the crowd at the winter meeting of the Democratic National Committee by shouting that the “fight is on” for "our brothers and sisters in public employee unions."

And, as has been oft discussed, this is a huge political issue for 2012. Wisconsin and Ohio are swing states and public worker unions are the most important Democratic constituency, providing the largest bloc of the party’s financial support, reliable votes and ground troops for getting out other voters. A loss here for Democrats and unions would be a damaging blow to Obama’s reelection hopes. Obama needs a union win and needs to show his union patrons that he is with them in the struggle.

The Obama administration has worsened the plight of those governors with new obligations under Medicaid and, ironically, through the generous bailouts he has obtained for their states.

State governments were the largest single recipients of cash from Obama’s February, 2009 stimulus package. States received an estimated $160 billion out of the $787 billion package. Then, in August of 2010 the president pushed through another $26 billion in state aid aimed at preventing government worker layoffs.

I bet the tea partiers see some hypocrisy here, coming from the slurpy-sucking “vilifier in chief”

I find it a bit rich that some Marxist twirp who has made his living out of class warfare, and has, for the last two years, denigrating businessmen, corporations, and the middle class is suddenly concerned with ‘vilification’. And I’m glad to see with North Africa in flames, the housing market going down, unemployment either stagnant or rising, that Il Douche is focused on this < s/o >

And don’t compare him to Napoleon, please. Nappy was a military veteran, and had brains. No teleprompter, but brains. And his wives weren’t Wookies.

A smart political campaign could make good use of this fact.

The Wisconsin Governor has responded to the President’s comments. The Governor’s Press Secretary Cullen Werwie issued the following statement:
I'm sure the President knows that most federal employees do not have collective bargaining for wages and benefits while our plan allows it for base pay. And I'm sure the President knows that the average federal worker pays twice as much for health insurance as what we are asking for in Wisconsin. At least I would hope he knows these facts.

Furthermore, I’m sure the President knows that we have repeatedly praised the more than 300,000 government workers who come to work every day in Wisconsin.

I’m sure that President Obama simply misunderstands the issues in Wisconsin, and isn’t acting like the union bosses in saying one thing and doing another.

when public employees are denigrated or vilified, or their rights are infringed upon

This overheated rhetoric is without substantiation, except as to its ability to embolden those for whom victim status is being claimed by their communistic organizer. Will the MSM have a full discussion of this, or will Zero's words simply be force fed as gospel truth?

0Bambi is simply shilling for his comm-union-istic friends and misrepresenting almost every "fact" he presents. The voters have spoken. Barry's friends lost. Wisconsin needs to get its fiscal house in order, and it needs to use legal means to accomplish that, which is precisely what it's doing.

For the Community Organizer to inject mobs, intimidation and coercion into the legislative mix while colluding to throw a wrench into the process by causing legislators to withhold their presence and work product is working entirely against his Oath of Office, for which he could and should reasonably be impeached. He is a lawless thug, who needs to be stopped.

What rights are being infringed upon? The unions’ rights to free speech or free press? Their rights to bear arms? The laborers’ rights to practice their religion? Could somebody please answer this question for me? What Constitutional right does one have to belong to a union?
