On election night, Texas saw three liberal congressmen defeated by their more mainstream (by Texas standards) opponents! Obviously this overshadowed the major gains in the Texas House of Representatives which were far more impressive. While the national election was definitely a referendum on liberal policies and a 2nd chance for the GOP, the results in Texas were clearly a mandate in support of a more conservative Legislature , which could spell trouble for Texas House Speaker Joe Straus.
A net gain of 12 seats in the Texas House was seen as a ceiling for the Texas GOP until election night when an unprecedented 22 new Republicans were elected to the Texas House of Representatives! If this isnt a mandate for conservatives and a sign that the Democratic Party in Texas is more than out of touch, then I dont know what it will take them to see this. Every year Democrats say that this is the year that Texas becomes purple and/or makes the jump towards being a blue state.
Fortunately Texans are smarter than that. We dont really care what elitists in Washington think of us. We Texans do things our own way and it has definitely worked well for our state. On election night, Texans gave conservative Republicans a very clear mandate to bring some common sense to our House. For the past two cycles, the Texas House has been closely divided and during the last session it seemed like Democrats were actually running the place.

Lost is when California elected moonbeam dem Jerry Brown to succeed Ronald Reagan in 1974 and then elected him again in 2010 in the GOP sweep year of 2010.
It just might be if it doesn't secure it's own border (since the Feds won't do it).
No kidding. Overrun by illegals who breed like rats.
Then explain the 2010 Texas election results.
Question is, when Colifornia falls off into the ocean, do we toss them a floatation devise? It’s a rhetorical question...
Anchor babies don’t vote.....yet.
Of course you did, but what the hey, who have white teacher union parasites taking over the capital of Wisconsin, and you are silent on that.
2% of Republicans vote strong freedom loving conservative. The rest are former democraps.
I won’t cry when we vote more wimps out and elect some folks with real stones.
Too many Rinos. When we start getting tough on illegals and they flee here like they left Arizona I will think we are on the right path.
Have I been silent on Wisconsin, Boy?
I don't know, but you have been showing your ignorance about Texas.
illegals do not vote!!!
And that's a good thing.
What ignorance is that?
I simply suggested that you have serious problems looming in the future and you respond with “Quick, look over there”!
No body ever fixed a problem by ignoring it or running away from it.
Too bad you weren't around in 1974 when a mostly white California voted in moonbeam dem Jerry Brown, yet you decry a 2011 GOP Texas.
In this day and age, EVERYONE votes early, and often!
It isn’t all that hard to get a voters registration card. I know this personally, some have voting rights in 3 states. YES, Illegals Vote.
Hey DB, get your finger off the trigger.
LOL my state becomes more conservative as liberals flee to states like Texas.
I just wish we had a senate race in the last election so we could add it to the governor’s mansion secretary of state, attorney general’s office, both state house and state senate, two supreme court seats and two US house seats. Best thing yet is that we get to redistrict a democrat seat out of existence.
Overrun by illegals who breed like rats.
I'll bet you have trouble sleeping at night, knowing that illegals are spreading like a virus.
Big ups to the Texas GOP!
pingaroony.
