EPA Reverses Itself on Fluoride
FoxNews.com ^ | February 22, 2011 | By Deirdre Imus

For decades, fluoride has been marketed and heralded as essential for good dental hygiene and used in most toothpastes and mouthwashes. In addition, parents have been routinely encouraged to give their kids cavity-fighting fluoride treatments when they visit the dentist. ...

But that was then and this is now. In a surprising reversal, last month EPA’s announced that it intends to lower the maximum amount of fluoride in drinking water because of growing evidence supporting the chemical’s possible deleterious effects to children’s health.

In 2006, the National Academy of Sciences report that found dental fluorosis – caused by too much fluoride – capable of putting children at risk of developing other dental problems including the breakdown of tooth enamel, discoloration and pitting. January’s EPA recommendation reversal was made following a revised risk assessment study that found 2 out of 5 adolescents had tooth streaking or spottiness and some pitting as a result of excessive fluoride. In addition, other studies have found excessive ingestion of fluoride capable of increasing the risk of brittle bones leading to fractures and debilitating bone abnormalities.

You need reverse osmosis to remove flouride.

LOL! I just posted almost the same thing and then read your post :)

The problem with filters is that they typically filter out all of our minerals which are crucial to LIFE. Particularly magnesium. Does your filter leave in minerals?

I believe magnesium deficiency causes fibromyalgia. We cured my husband of it by putting him on high doses of mg.

I use a carbon block filter and an alumina filter. Alumina gets out the fluorine. I’ll have to check on what the carbon block removes on the magnesium

Did you use trans dermal magnesium? Good for your husband! This guy is very good on magnesium and iodine http://iodine.imva.info/

Thank you very much for that link to oramd.com.

I ordered some right after reading your post. 3 bottles. One for everyone in my family.

If anyone is interested in trying these oral cleansing drops they can also buy them at amazon.com. The order is from the company who makes the drops. But I like the ease of ordering from Amazon.

Thanks again for the link. I can’t wait to try it out!

We use magnesium malate. The RDA for mg is 425mg. We use double that.

I have the transdermal mag and use it from time to time but it’s a wee bit sticky (like after swimming in the ocean).

You can distill your water at home and that will remove fluoride as well.

We no longer need so much fluoride in water because practically all modern toothpaste has fluoride as part of the ingredient list.

Correct. I found a gravity filter “ZeroWater” that is a five stage filter including ion exchange and will remove Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Fluoride is a dissolved solid and while the website and literature won’t specifically say that fluoride is removed, since it is a DS it should be removed. When you order a pitcher it comes with a TDS meter to measure before and after filtration.

I should say that I use the filter at work where there’s only fluoridated and chlorinated tap water available. Home we’re on a well and I don’t use the filter there.

I am a dental hygienist. I live in a county that is not fluoridated. The dentists would prescribe fluoride pills and we would apply topical fluoride in the office. The county next to ours is fluoridated. Fluoridated water tastes horrible. Pittsburgh is in this county. In the 1960’s, Pittsburgh started fluoridating the water. Before that, the University of Pittsburgh Dental School was packed with kids who had rotting teeth. Fluoride DOES work. But I believe that people today are over-fluoridated. The “optimum level” of fluoride in the water was considered 1 part per million (ppm). They put less in the water in the summer, because they believe you are drinking more water. From my experience, kids today don’t drink very much tap water. I believe that they are overingesting the flouride from their toothpaste or anti-cavity mouthwash.
Our former governor in PA, Ed Rendell, signed a law stating that any community in PA with more than 500 households must have a fluoridated public water supply. This hasn’t been implemented yet.
I haven’t heard anyone mention Xylitol on this tread. It is very good at inhibiting plaque bacteria and preventing tooth decay. It is often used as a sweetener in sugarless gum.

I have Hashimoto’s Disease which attacks my thyroid. Guess what a trigger of Hashimoto’s is.......flouride. EPA, poisoning us and taxing us to do it.

Anybody else remember when the people who said fluoride was dangerous were derided as nut cases?

A good friend of mine, attorney John Graham, fought the battle against fluoride in several states and Canada. He was derided as a nut and worse.

I don't expect to see any published letters of apology.
