May We Drill Now, Please?

[. . . ]

"The administration has at least 40 exploration plans and 40 development plans that have not been acted upon," Milito adds. . . .

"In addition, this may be the first year since 1964 where we will not have a lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico," Milito continues. "A recently announced supplemental environmental-impact report for the Gulf may not be ready until 2012. Holding these lease sales is critical to our economic and energy security because they provide the opportunity for long-term investments in American jobs and energy sources."

Short-term delays can cause long-term stasis. A Wood Mackenzie study commissioned by the API found that a one-year delay in granting permits could render "sub-economic" 13 out of 25 deepwater oil and gas fields. Those 13 fields represent 2.7 billion barrels in potential oil reserves (which would satisfy about five months of U.S. demand) and 540,000 barrels of daily output. Such a loss would slash Gulf of Mexico production by 27 percent.

President Obama can bow before windmills, and Vice President Biden can cheerlead for a shiny, new, national train set. But none of that changes the fact that - like it or not - America relies heavily on oil today, for jobs, commerce, and our very existence. As bad luck would have it, oil comes mainly from an area that is as stable as a prison riot. "Precarious" barely describes America's predicament. And yet, a huge part of the solution - domestic oil and gas - lies just beneath our feet, if only Uncle Barack would let us open the basement door and light this dormant furnace.

May we drill now, please?

We need more refineries not more oil. Oil is backing up in storage. We can’t refine what we have fast enough. It’ll take ten years or more to build one. That’s after jumping through all that EPA hoops.

You are correct, Sir! We will be exporting crude so we can import the gasoline...just like Iran. How long has it been since we commissioned a new refinery? 25 years?

At one time we were an oil exporting country. Over the past forty years I kept hearing our presidents saying we have to be self sufficient in oil; and they did nothing about it. Now look where we are. We have to import and we barely refine that to keep us going. We loose one refinery to fire or a natural disaster and look what happens to price.

How much was gas per gallon before Obama was elected?

How much is it now?

Campaign issue and bumper sticker for the 2012 election.

I prefer: We DEMAND that serious oil drilling be restarted now!

(One oil rig is insufficient.)

I remember all the folks that blamed Bush for “big oil”. And they were blindly adamant that it was his fault and Cheney’s. I’m sure they still feel that way as they are not the type to admit being wrong.

How much was gas per gallon before Obama was elected?

(midstate Pennsylvania)

Election Day 2008 = $2.39

Inauguration Day 2009 = $1.49

How much is it now

Ranging from $3.05 to $3.35

Salazar just released 1 permit and is crowing like hell about it. There are 15 more pending and the oil czar is hinting that it will take a LONG time until the next permit is issued. A while back he was complaining that they were so understaffed that they just couldn’t get to all the permit applications. Solution to this is more funding for his agency.
So salazar and crew get to loot more of our cash and stonewall new drilling activity. Gettin paid and wrecking the economy all in one move.

People were ready to impeach Bush over his handling of the oil companies when the price of gas went to $2.50/gal in the MidWest.

I wonder where all of those a$$holes are now that the Dems have sufficiently screwed things up to a point where I paid $3.48/gal yesterday.

If y'all wanna real Revolution now, you might wanna do it before I run out of this tank of gas...
