In Afghanistan, a decade after the overthrow of the Taliban and the rise of an influential women’s rights movement, the violent subjugation of women remains broadly accepted. In recent weeks, the Afghan government has sharply criticized the country’s shelters for battered women and moved to take control of them.
But much more quietly, a culture of domestic violence — not only by husbands but also by husbands’ families — has followed Afghan immigrants to destinations like New York, where women’s advocates say they are only now discovering just how widespread the problem is.
Naheed Bahram, the chief case manager for Women for Afghan Women — a decade-old advocacy organization based in Fresh Meadows, Queens, where many Afghans have settled — said that as recently as five years ago, the center knew of only two cases of domestic abuse. As the community’s trust in the group has grown, that number has risen: about 35 battered women sought help last year.
Ms. Bahram said she suspected that most of the 300 or so women the center serves with classes and counseling have suffered domestic violence, but were still afraid to report it. “We’ve had clients who have been living like that for 16 to 17 years,” said Ms. Bahram, an Afghan immigrant herself.
In some ways, the United States can be worse than Afghanistan for abused women, advocates say. Many find themselves isolated in their new country, far from their families, unable to speak English and entirely dependent on husbands and in-laws. Most are unaware of their legal rights or fearful of the authorities.
And many Afghans in the diaspora, resistant to full assimilation, will hold onto traditional practices even tighter than they would in their home country — even in families that immigrated decades ago.

Agreed. Why are we letting these people into our country? That’s the only way they have of attacking us directly. Now we are bringing in Somalians, Iraqi refugees (thanks to the Bush administration), and hordes of other Muslims. They and their offspring can be considered members of the FJA - Future Jihadists of America. This is insane.
Bring the troops home. Send the Muslims back.

A nasty fact that many ignore is that much abuse of young muslim women occurs at the hands of... older muslim women. It’s mothers and grandmothers holding those little girls down and mutilating their genitals. It’s mothers-in-law burning young brides who didn’t bring a big enough dowry, or aren’t obedient enough. When we are tempted to view muslim women as victims of muslim men, we should remember that they quickly grow just as nasty when they have a young victim of their own. The whole culture is rotten.
We seem to insist on importing the enemies of this nation while sending our brave troops to die and be maimed in their godforsaken country.
What’s wrong with our congress critters? Not much has changed since the 2010 elections.

Don’t worry, this isn’t about flowers, candy or cards. Of course the very idea is ridiculous. Valentine’s Day is an infidel holiday celebrating lewd, immoral and licentious behavior typical to your fallen religions. Trust me when I say we have nothing like Valentine’s Day in the one true religion of peace.
And men, isn’t it better for us that we don’t have it in our religion? No need to buy your wife flowers, candies or even a card on Valentine’s or any other day. This is just one small example of why the one true religion is better for men, and why you should seriously consider switching over while we’re still taking volunteers.
And it’s really easy to join. Just say one prayer, and you’re in for life.
Here’s another good reason to switch. Say you don’t feel like showing tender affection to your wife. You don’t have to! In fact, if she burns dinner, doesn’t clean the house, or pisses you off in any way you can just back-hand her, (as long as you don’t break any bones or mark her face.) In fact, it’s okay for you to give her a good thrashing now and then to get her back into line. Why? Because it says it’s okay in the holy books of the one true religion of peace, that’s why.
Don’t worry, the bruises covering the rest of her body won’t show, because (isn’t this great!) a wife can never leave the house while showing one square centimeter of bare uncovered skin that’s not between her eyes and her chin. Which is mighty handy, in case she’s still covered with bruises from her last few disciplinary sessions. And as long as you are careful not to beat her face in, she can still go out in public to do your shopping, (while properly attired, of course).
Here’s another reason why the one true religion is better for us men. Maybe your wife just doesn’t have the old sex-appeal any more. The thrill is gone. No problem! You can remarry, and bring a second, third or a fourth wife home. You don’t have to even ask the old bat’s permission. Whom you marry is up to you and you alone in the one true religion, because you are a man! If wife-number-one doesn’t want you bringing that pretty little thing home to your bed, well too bad for wife-number-one. She has no say in the matter. You may do what you want, because you are a man!
Now, my infidel friend and prospective member of the one true religion of peace, maybe you’re not such a handsome young stud yourself any more. You’re over forty, and you haven’t exactly been working out and keeping buff. Don’t worry, that’s not a problem. Let’s say your brother has a cute little daughter, Fatima. She’s going to be turning thirteen soon. For the first eleven or twelve years of her life she was allowed the run of the block like a free-spirited little sprite. Uncovered, just as cute as a button, and sure to be one hot number once she passes through puberty.

The women are indeed victims, just as much as any person raised in a cult where there is no free choice or free will.
The older women spend their entire lives believing (having no other basis of comparison) that women cannot be made marriageable without being “fixed” via FGM. A woman who cannot be married is doomed, since the only other “option” is to be victim of honor killing, or wind up a begger in a burqa.
Yes, the aunts and cousins do trick the girls into attending a “party” where she will be ambused and mutilated.
This is evil and horrible and tragic. But it’s just one spinoff of the insane rape and murder cult: the absolute subjugation of women.
