A top House Democrat is urging EPA to quickly toughen regulation of natural gas drilling following a New York Times report on the discharge of dangerous pollutants into rivers that supply drinking water.
The Times citing internal documents from EPA and elsewhere claims that chemicals and radioactive elements in wastewater from gas projects are creating dangers to the environment and health [that] are greater than previously understood.
Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) sent EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson a detailed letter Saturday calling for immediate action.
I am outraged that state and federal regulators were evidently well aware of the risks that the wastewater might pose, but instead chose to adopt a see no evil, hear no evil approach to regulation by ignoring them, writes Markey, the top Democrat on the Natural Resources Committee.

Lisa Jackson is merely a man-made global warming crackpot in the Kenyan’s Regime.
It is past time for the States to ignore the Federal Government and drill. What can the Feds do. Start a civil war? Good, let it begin.
I believe you.
Has anyone here viewed the expose? I did. If even 1% is true, it needs to be looked into.
How much better off would we be if these bastards would just leave us alone?

that left wing SOB is always to be found when there’s an attack on free enterprise
Great,,, a crackdown on gas drilling. Thats just what we need,,,
I’m beginning to think the only solution is to deal with the EPA the same way the Romans dealt with Carthage. Like most conservatives I strongly favor sensible environmental protections. But in the hands of radical liberals the EPA, combined with the Endangered Species Act, has only been used as a deadly weapon aimed at the heart of capitalism.
following a New York Times report
Hahahahahaha Go to h3ll.
Your key words, “we’re and them” are the plan man.
Just like the good ol ussr days, the masses lived 20 to a 1 bedroom apt. and with continious food shortages, while the politburo members lived high on the hog. Even the best of the high on the ussr hog lived lower than Joe Sixpack here.
What is so puzzling is why would any thinking human being consider that anything to strive for.
Maybe is like what Rush says, they think the wrong ones were leading communism before and they’ll get it right. RIGHT!
No.
What we need to do is vote out guys like Markey.
And if we can’t vote out guys like Markey, we need to marginalize them.
Box them up in places like Massachusetts.
Let them sell “crazy” up there.
I hope we never make the same mistake we made in 2008.
It’s getting to that point.
Will the USAF really fire on us for drilling?
The residents of Mr. Markey’s district should pledge to give up all forms of energy other than what can be produced by wind and solar power. Let’s see them stick to their principles.

I have followed this story closely. It really needs to be split into several parts for clarity - something fracking opponents don't want to do.
First of all, fracking has been around for decades, and happens deep within the Earth. There are no documented cases of fracking polluting groundwater.
Second, what is happening now is that wells are being bored horizontally through the pay formation and then fracked, which uses a lot more fluid but is no more dangerous than the older fracking of vertical wells.
Third, wells that are properly cemented and cased prevent fracking fluid from getting into near-surface groundwater formations (note that problems with cementing contributed to the Deepwater blowout in the Gulf last year). States such as Pennsylvania that have had major growth in drilling activity have had to scramble to get enough inspectors, but that is a manageable problem.
Fourth, some states such as Pennsylvania had inadequate controls regarding the disposal of leftover fracking fluid, to where some companies just dumped the waste into streams - which has been the source of pollution from fracking - not the actual fracking activity itself. There also was some controversy about fluid being trucked to municipal wastewater plants for disposal. The disposal problem in PA has largely been solved.
Fracking opponents largely fall into two camps. Those who own property in an area and don't want drilling activity near them (classic NIMBY), and nutbar greenies who don't want the US to be able to exploit its natural resources. Hence the dishonest mixing of the issues I have mentioned to try and confuse the public.
And the timing of this article was probably tied to the fact that the anti-fracking propaganda 'documentary' Gasland is up for an Oscar tonight.
Hope that helps.
