HOBBS -- A Hobbs man is shot dead after allegedly trying to break in to someone else's property.
The fatal shooting happened around 10:30 PM Tuesday. Hobbs Police say that Watson Green called them Tuesday night, saying that someone was breaking into his home in the 1100 block of North Denson.
Green, 70, told police that he had armed himself, but the dispatch officer told him to put the gun down and wait for police. Green decided to shoot the suspect through the door instead.
When police arrived, they found the suspect -- 43 year old Wallace Roberson -- lying in the alley next the home, wounded. Roberson was taken to Lea Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Lea County District Attorney is reviewing the case.
The shooting comes less than a week after an Odessa homeowner shot and killed a man who was trying to break into his truck. That homeowner has not been charged.

Sure, when pigs fly!
LMAO!!!
...but the dispatch officer told him to put the gun down and wait for police.
Perfect example as to why one must be prepared to defend oneself, they very well could have just sent a hearse buy the time the police showed up.
I love a happy ending.
Hope the man has a lot of money and a damn good home owners insurance policy.
Good advice:
1. You don't want to get tired before it's time to shoot the criminal breaking into your home, and
2. You can shoot better from a stable rest than from a standing position.
I suspect you're just kidding, but it's worth mentioning that no homeowner in such a situation should consider tampering with evidence.
It destroys all of the homeowner's credibility. And I doubt very much that it would fool an experienced detective.
Clearly a dereliction of a lawful order. He should go to jail for disobedience. lol. /sarc.
Green decided to shoot the suspect through the door instead.
LMAO!!!
I wonder if that hurts? Obviously it kills!! LOL!
“Green, 70, told police that he had armed himself, but the dispatch officer told him to put the gun down and wait for police.”
More proof that government is there to protect the criminal.
“...but the dispatch officer told him to put the gun down and wait for the police.”
“I can’t hear you very well. You say I should shoot the armed robber for the police?”
“No! I said to put the gun down and wait for the police!”
“You say I should gun him down? Thank you, but I’ll only do that if I have to!”
“No! I said to put the gun down and wait for the police!”
“I’m not going to shoot somebody just because you tell me to, unless I think he’s a threat to my life!”
“No! I said to put the gun down and wait for the police!”
“Here he comes now! I’ll fire a warning shot at the door to tell him to keep away, but I’m not going to shoot him just on your say-so!”
Yep, the bullet hole in the door would be a dead give away. Especially that exit hole on the exterior side of the door.
“the dispatch officer told him to put the gun down and wait for police”
Me:
“Why? Do you think the cops can get here before he kills me?
“I know you guys would rather investigate my murder than prevent it, but that’s not your decision.”
(Actually, I’d have said “FU” and set the phone down.)
Best Gun Commercial Ever

exactly right!!
Better scenario:
“911, What’s your emergency?”
Yes, Someone is breaking in my front door.
“Do you have someplace safe you can hide, while you wait for the police to arrive?”
“Yes, I’m standing in the hall behind my Sig P220!”
Good shooting, Citizen. Civilization thanks you.
Is that a picture of Old Painless?
