These mothers need to stay home and be mothers. It is criminal to drop kids off at age 3. These women should be prosecuted.

Local and moved-in black people are a large percentage of government employees here, too. They’re favored for hiring. We have a significant percentage of immigrants, legal and illegal, but they have “real” jobs. Eastern Europeans tend to have mechanic skills, such as fixing the dryer. Mexicans or Central Americans are in agriculture or building/repair trades.

However, a “legal,” secure job in Mexico or Egypt is a government job. It will be interesting, if the system holds up that long, to see if the Post Office is staffed by the American-born children of today’s illegals, in 40 years.

Expect more of the same ‘blame game’ in days to come.

Republicans will be painted over and over and over by the
the leftist media whores as the ones to blame for everything
that pops up.

Who cares. It’s not like we can’t get the truth out there...for now.

Our grandkids (who live with us) attended Head Start for 2-3 years. It was a positive experience, definitely, but then schools and teachers are pretty good in this area while people complain vehemently about them in others.

Believe me, it wasn’t a babysitting service for us. We love every minute with the kids (well, almost) and I had to drive two 20 mile round trips each day to drop them off and call for them. Burned a bunch of gas and a Geo Metro!

It was the unionista bus drivers that finally drove her out. Bunch of vicious drunken animals demanding more money than was in the budget.

When was this exactly? How many more years has the total waste of money scam been going until somebody said, "Hey! Wait a sec here..."

See my post #20.

Yeah, I think I should be prosecuted, too! (post #25).

Just so I get free meals and health insurance for life in a prison like the one Madoff is in.

BTW, the kids are turning out fine.

Kids can get a lot out of a preschool program. Several of my children went to church preschool, before it got too expensive.

However, there is a difference between observing that a child had a good time and learned something in preschool, and proving that it had long-term educational advantages over not attending. The justification for Head Start as a federal program was that it would produce life-long improvements in outcome for children from poor families.

Libs like to tout Head Start as a real leg up for kids from poor families. In truth, those kids do well for the first couple of years, but after 3rd Grade, they don't do any better than their peers, and many start to slide backwards.

Seems like it's mainly an expensive Day Care program.

My mother walked away around 20 years ago.

Just filthy business all around. You sell your soul writing grant requests for programs like that.

headstart was started because, after the 60’s successful riots in the colleges etc - these kids graduated and went out and largely reverted to the values taught to them in their homes as children.

So they moved to take over the public schools and younger kids - but dang it, too many of them also either stayed with or reverted to their upbringing.

So, they got the movement going to get women out to work - and then provide headstart to help for ‘babysitting.’
the rationale for Headstart?

DIRECT QUOTE from one of their conference manuals: “We must get to them [children] starting by age 2 BEFORE THEIR PARENTS HAVE INSTILLED THEIR VALUES IN THEM.”

As far as the mantra that Headstart gave kids a better start in school, studies showed that by 3rd-4th grade, kids were so burned out of being in school that they lost ground.

Children need their first few years at home to have time to get a good sense of themselves as an individual, not just one of a group.

And we know how the commies feel about individualism.

I walk into a Federal building in a 95% white area and 50% plus of the employees are minorities. Some places it’s more like 80%.

Sometime in the 70s welfare was attached to the "Public Employee" system at all levels, and became the 60-pound tail that wags the 80-pound dog.

I have visited the Engineering and Planning Departments at many County offices for decades, and on a more than a few occasions, right in the middle of of a transaction, she/he (union member) has said, "I have to go now; it's time for my scheduled break." Negotiated Union Rule?

Can you imagine any private-sector employee ever doing that to a customer? and keeping their job?

The good news is, there will be a sudden surplus of short buses for unemployed and illegal immigrant families to live in.

Yep. This needs to go away as it is wholly a waste of money and an empowerment of the nanny state (literally).

It is designed to give the mothers a head start on the next fatherless baby.

I have to say, it’s pretty amazing that CA would cut Head Start rather than work on public sector union costs.

I am not attempting to make a generalization to any other kids, or any other Head Start facility, not am I referring merely to the “fun” quotient.

But in our case we can trace back to where they began to learn letters, for example, in Early Head Start (with reinforcement at home, of course), to whole words in Head Start, on through the progression to the present day. The socialization function also was important, since as grandparents we weren’t in contact with other small children. In this manner of looking at the kids’ development longitudinally the longer term benefit is there; we see it also in the comments on their report cards. Believe me, none of their counterparts in their father’s family get compliments like that!

Yes, they would have acquired the intellectual and social skills eventually anyway (probably), but a head start is always an advantage.

There’s been enough studies to show that Head Start is useless, as the kids drop to average within maybe two years of getting out.

It would be something entirely different if they actually made an effort to teach the kids reading as I did for my kids when they were that age (psst...PHONICS!!!!), but that is not politically correct - so they never actually learn to read, and thus are unable to take off on their own and stay ahead.

It’s just another waste of government money, added to our debt.
