Union Power for Thee, But Not for Me
WSJ ^ | 2-25-11 | KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL

Posted on 02/25/2011 6:00:38 PM PST by bigbob

The union horde is spreading, from Madison to Indianapolis to a state capital near you. And yet the Democratic and union bigwigs engineering the outrage haven't directed their angry multitudes at what is arguably the most "hostile workplace" in the nation: Washington, D.C.

It will no doubt surprise you to learn that President Obama, the great patron of the working man, also happens to be the great CEO of one of the least union-friendly shop floors in the nation.

Like a blind pig, Bill O'Reilly found a real nice acorn tonight. And contrary to his usual credit-grabbing self, he graciously acknowledged this piece by Ms. Strassel, who correctly and succinctly nails the real reason for Obama's silence on the Wisconsin public union debate. It would be the pot calling the kettle black (so to speak).

After all, his Federal employees are not compelled to join a union, nor to pay union dues. And in the two years they've had control of both houses of Congress plus the Presidency not one Democrat finger has been lifted to give their federal union pals their "rights".

This goes in the archive.

One day I’m gonna have to cough up a subscription to WSJ now that the best content has gone behind a firewall. :-(

Not to "near me", I live about 65 miles from the state capital of Illinois, they don't have to come here, they are already here and run the place with a solid rat house, senate and governor.

As I think about this, I have to admit the unions are a lot cleverer than I’d given them credit. At the state level they’ve succeed (until now?) in extracting union dues from all employees, only to return the vast majority of that money directly into the pockets of Democrat state legislators. What a slick operation! It gives the public unions a lot of power over thousands of politicians, all the way down to local schools, police and fire, etc that they could never get if they worked their evil at the federal level.

And now it’s all at risk. No wonder they are in a flop-sweat from coast to coast.

A little irony to contemplate: I have been around union people all my life. I have never once seen a union guy HIRE a union shop to do work at their home. You know why? There not stupid. Why would they pay more when they don’t have to. Anybody remember the Frank Thomas incident? Thomas was building a mansion in Oak Brook,IL...all non union guys. But hey, wait, Frank Thomas is a Chicago White Sox Union baseball player. The union struck his house ‘til he knuckled over. And as we all know..Frank Thomas could afford a union project....but even he found the price hard to swallow!

Yep, some of the cheapest people I have ever met when it came to paying someone to perform work for them. Always working an angle and trying to get something for nothing. I’m not saying all but about 90% of them. They are good to themselves mind you, new cars, toys, etc.

In contrast, small business people are some of the best customers I’ve had as a general rule. Will pay for good work as long as it is done well and correctly. They also appreciate the work involved and the ability it takes.

Why obama why !?

You had total control over Congress yet did not pass legislation allowing collective bargaining and striking by federal workers.

Why obama?

It's my fault, I admit it and can only hope that it doesn't get me banned.
