Fox News should fire Glenn Beck; Speaker Boehner should denounce the birthers
By Brent Budowsky - 02/25/11 09:48 AM ET
Fox News should fire Glenn Beck because there are some "opinions" that should not be given prominence on a network that purports to be a serious news station. Beck has the right to express his opinions, but a publicly traded company that presumes to be a credible news network should not be aiding and abetting the spreading of hate using its shareholders' money on the public airwaves.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) should denounce the birthers clearly, unequivocally, immediately and unconditionally and should state, without qualification, that President Obama is a Christian and an American. A leader of one of our two great parties, and the leader of the whole House of Representatives, which is the true role of the Speaker, should not give one ounce of credence to the politics of lies and hate, or leave one inch of doubt that he condemns the politics of lies and hate.
There is weakness in the Democratic Party, for sure, but there is a cancer that is spreading in the Republican Party. The GOP should not allow Glenn Beck to be one of its loudest voices, and should denounce his hate. The Speaker should not treat the purveyors of hate as a valued part of his constituency, or a faction he is too fearful and timid to publicly and clearly condemn.
The president does not say he is a Christian. He is a Christian. The president does not say he is an American. He is an American.
What is happening in American politics is the cheapening of our dialogue and dishonoring of our democracy that combines the worst of the trivial pursuits of what is called cable news with the most extreme voices from talk radio and the Internet, and adding a partisan hunger for power that is extreme and dominates every other consideration in our political and media nation.
Personally, I am fed up with Republicans who preach or tolerate the politics of hate, fed up with Democrats who seem to have no higher values they will champion with conviction, fed up with cable news that treats politics like a forum for hate or a freak show with the latest babble about Sarah Palin and Donald Trump and the idiot nonsense that insider Democrats and Republicans who are out of touch with America tell each other at their insider lunches.
What they all have in common is that they disrespect their audience for their higher purpose of gaining power, making money, peddling the latest insider pittypatter without any serious discussion about the one-fifth of the nation that is jobless, the deadly crisis of the tens of millions who are hungry or the continuing cascade of those who are foreclosed upon and homeless.
I am going to have a lot more to say about cable news and the culture it breeds, and I will not spare Democrats or liberals. There are tens of millions of Americans who do not watch cable news because their voice is not respected, and the battle is only beginning for their hearts, minds and eyeballs.
For now, it is time for Fox News to fire Glenn Beck and time for Speaker Boehner to denounce the birthers, or Fox News will forfeit its right to be treated as a serious news network, and Speaker Boehner will forfeit his stature as a national leader for being too afraid to say publicly what he surely believes in the privacy of his conscience.
I’m sick of these limp wristed whining liberal sacks of crap.
When Bush was President, calling him chimpy, Bushitler, a drug user, dumber than dirt was all civil, good fun.
Now the media routinely savages Sarah Palin with lies, half truths, and spin. All in good fun, very civil.
Let some conservatives get on point, a little too close to home, and all the sudden it’s incivility, hate mongering, and racist.
Shove it liberals. I hope every last bit of the SEIU is broken, and were I king, the leaders would be shot.
... on the other hand, perhaps we should consider the suggestion. After all, it’s easily demonstrated the Left understands the use of “hate” far better than does the Right ... heh-heh.
And I find myself an embarrassment for posting twice!
Is this really someone you want to hitch your wagon to Brent?
Heard the same theme on Morning Joke today.
Talking points must have gone out early.
I bet we hear more of this.
All this skinny, pipe-stemmed illegal alien has to do is come up with his birth certificate . . . I can go home and get mine this afternoon. No need for me to spend $2 million to make mine off limits.
Who is Boehner or Beck to denounce anyone? Does this guy think that would be some kind of official marching orders? What’s the point of this babble?
“WTF is a Budowsky? Is that a beer enema or something?”
No, that would be a Budinsky.
“Brent, toughen up buttercup”
LOL super duper.
Brent wants the right to succumb to the fictions of the Kenyan on the basis of left wing marginalization of dangerous ideas.
I say if the ideas are dangerous to the Kenyan, I BELIEVE!
I am a birther.
I have watched Glenn and have never actually noticed him spreading "hate" or "lies." In fact, he is careful to tell his viewers to do their own homework and thinking...and to draw their own conclusions.
And who the h$ll is Brent Budowsky?
Excuse me, asswipe, but can The Messiah simply produce his ORIGINAL LONG-FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE, AND HIS COLLEGE RECORDS AND TRAVEL RECORDS, proving his citizenship; or do we just take YOUR word for it, having no FACTS or DOCUMENTATION to back it up?
The ONLY people who attack those who question the "natural born citizen" issue that hangs over The Messiah are those who haven't seen a shred of proof of the above.
I like Bret Baier, and he has two adorable little children. I’d never want to see him fired from Fox. He is a gem, IMO.
Boehner will continue to get kicked around until he takes a less passive stance. Rather than saying he shouldn’t tell us what to think, he should say he agrees with Obama’s good friend Abercrombie, that the documents should be released, thus putting the issue to rest. Put it back on Obama and his good buddy Hippo Mouth. That is the only way to stop the MSM badgering.
As for Boehner, he can say or refuse to say what he pleases. Free speech, whether you like it or not.
[And who the h$ll is Brent Budowsky?]
Exactly what I was thinking. To answer, I have no idea, I don’t care, and I could not care less what he thinks.
I wrote this on the site:
Mr Budowsky, “PSST” Glenn reaches more people in 10 mins of his show then has read your writings in a year. Sure must suck to be you and feel so jealous to spew hate. If a liberal writes a story and no one sees it is it a real story LOL.
