BAIDA, LIBYA - Forces loyal to Moammar Gaddafi fought Thursday to take back territory from a popular revolt that is steadily advancing toward the capital, as the United States and other Western powers considered possible responses to the bloodshed including a military "no-fly zone."
Loyalist forces made up of Libyan militiamen and foreign mercenaries attacked rebels in two cities near the capital, but the anti-government movement made new gains and seized control of an air force base, news agencies reported.
The fighting came as Gaddafi blamed the revolt in his country on Osama bin Laden, in what came across as a desperate plea to citizens Thursday to abandon their 10-day-old rebellion.
The revolt seemed to be closing in on the capital, Tripoli, with most of the eastern part of the country controlled by protesters and signs that demonstrations also were spreading in the west.
In Washington, White House spokesman Jay Carney said President Obama was speaking Thursday afternoon with British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy to coordinate responses to the situation in Libya.
"We're examining a lot of options," Carney said, including sanctions and imposition of a no-fly zone to prevent Libyan aircraft from bombing protesters.
Asked about the "range of options" that Obama has requested for dealing with Libya, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said, "We expect to take action in the coming days." He added: "The military has been a full participant in these discussions" and is "doing its own thinking about options that can be presented to the president."
Meanwhile, Crowley said, a U.S.-chartered evacuation ferry with 285 people on board - 167 of them Americans - remains docked at Tripoli's Shahab port waiting for the weather to clear so it can sail to the island of Malta.

What option? Support the status quo. Simple
We still have allies? I guess 0 isn’t working hard enough...
“It’s time for immediate discussion!”
The best I can ascertain, these are the only loyalists that are backing Gadaffy anymore.
His assembly of hot virgin bodyguards. What a way to go.
I say sit this one out. The more of them that kill each other the better off the world will be. JMHO
The old battle plan from 1805 is probably still on file somewhere. ("Say, does this letter look like an 's' or an 'f' to you? I think it's supposed to be an 's', but it's written like a big 'f'.)
Semper Fi.

Seriously hot!
We have more, they're apparently willing to use theirs.
They should make the news guys go watch some old war movies. They are butchering the names of the cities. Or, did they change all of the pronunciations like the Chinese. I still say Peking, and my kids look at me like I am crazy.
I remember when it was called Beiping or Peching.

If these “protesters” are armed and trying to kill you then they are the enemy. Bombs away.
I have no kind words for Gahdoffi, but I have a desire to see bhurka enforcers wiped out.
