United Airlines released the first pictures Thursday of its largest jet, the Boeing 747-400, repainted with the new logo and color scheme adopted by the Chicago-based carrier as part of its 2010 merger with Continental Airlines.

I wonder how many pounds does the paint job adds to the weight of a huge plane?
Needs a big blue circle around the ‘D’ .
1200 pounds.
Right on all points. I remember about 10 years ago having to fly to EWR and IAH a few times a month for work, Continental had just introduced a bunch of brand new 737-700 series. They smelled like a new car. Then I'd have to go to ORD, and United smelled like a Pakistani hotel.
In the past it could be significant. That’s why a lot of airlines incorporated the bare aluminum into their designs, American Airlines for one for awhile.
For anyone with 4 minutes free time. 13 day time lapse of painting a 747.

Not that I care...My only goal is to get from one point to another.
Better video, Northwest to Delta repaint 747.
It takes two years to repaint that buyout.

Yeah I really liked those new Conti 737-700. I think just before the merger or right after they added more seats and the leg room was terrible.
I have told anyone to call or use a webinar because I am avoiding any flying.
No hanging necessary, if fact there is a certain cachet to your madness!
Has anyone noticed the tail design looks like Contenental Airlines? Have they merged?
Only about 800lbs....or about the combined overweight of the flight attendants inside Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile
I wonder how many millions they paid their consultants for that “original” idea.
Only in Chicago...would that happen.
OMG! Rahmpuke would luuuuuve to be seen as that person.
I read years ago that American saved hundreds of pounds by going with a mostly bare aluminum look.
always my favorite plane, but the new paint scheme...umm wow, bet that took a long time to come up with /s
But regardless, I detest United even worse. They recently deleted 30k traveled airmiles from my frequent-flyer account for no reason -- my last trip was well within their "refreshing" timeframe.
But it doesn't matter. My first-ever airplane trip was on United, in 1968, and the experience was SO bad I didn't set foot aboard for over 3 decades and then only because of company booking policy. They had one chance early 2000s to remedy that (a trip to Asia) and didn't quite accomp0lish that.
Continental was a decent airline, when they were part of Skyteam. Won't fly them now, if I can avoid it.
And so far, I have.
And "Fly United?" You just gotta be kidding. Delta and its partners are variable (KLM Cityhopper is unreliable, Air France ranges from *super* to rude, depending upon route), but ever since Delta decided it was no longer going to fly the oldest planes in the business it's been pretty good.
I'm a Delta Platinum; this year I should easily make Diamond. Especially since the airmile thieves at Untied Airlines just gave me one more reason to avoid flying them ever again.
And it doesn't matter one bit what logo they paint on their tails.
