Ok, maybe not a great orator. What I meant was that he could persuade people with pretty speech, particularly those who are gullible enough to believe him. He has a way of saying things that dazzle his listeners. I think his true believers take his words and assume he means certain things when he doesn’t. He talks round and round and when he’s done, these people think, oh wow — he really cares about us; he’s really going to do all these great things for us; he’s the best and the brightest president we’ve ever had — blah, blah, blah. For example, as far as I know, he has never promised the “free money” to his supporters; yet, there are so many who actually believe that someday they are going to get this huge amount of cash from him. Look at the so-called health care reform. He made so many promises that you and I know are not true; yet, he has so captivated his followers, they just can’t see that those promises are empty, or that even if technically true, they are going to cost all of us (including his followers) big time. They see no downside in anything he says (or does).
