I never played Sim City but played something like it years ago.

Does Sim City have the technology/programming where liberalism and unions destroy cities and turn them into farmland?

The parasite govt workers and welfare class will hang on for as long as possible.

Anyone know where the locals on the govt handout lifestyle are fleeing to? Chicago? St. Louis?

You make a good point!

Not being an educational theorist or anything, lower-income kids never “learn to learn” if I can paint with an ultra broad brush. They never are imbued with the desire to acquire intelligence. Or, whatever instinct they may have in that direction gets shunted aside. My cousin who is a first-time math teacher (I know, an example of one) tells me about this.

And so the thinking is they need to be coddled or given attention one on one. You know the drill, I’m not saying anything you don’t understand. But like so many other things, it’s a chant, it’s a slogan.

They *do* need that one one on one, but that is the parents’ job, as I see it. But since that doesn’t appear to be happening either, the teachers take it upon themselves as one of their holy duties. And thus the myth(s) we are struggling with in these battles persist.

“Good Sentiment, but the kids themselves haev to WANT to learn.”

True, but in a private arena, the teachers can just keep the motivated kids and focus on them. Rather than spend most of their time begging the unmotivated to get with the program.

If you overtax people, businesses and wealthy people start to move out. Then you have to reduce services, which can lead to angry mobs, so you need to maintain good police funding. If you let the fiscal situation go bad long enough, you start getting massive zones of slums, which depress real estate values strongly near them, and somewhat throughout the entire city. Once people start fleeing the city, you start having to de-zone land, clear out unused industrial space, and restarting back from farmland.

It always seemed unrealistic that you could just simply de-zone and destroy whole neighborhoods, but that’s what they’re doing in Detroit: forcibly relocating the stragglers, and then declaring entire neighborhoods no longer inhabitable... except for farmers!

When I see these stately buildings, it makes me want to gnash my teeth, that because of the scum that live there, I can’t move in, fix it up, and have mysefl a REAL NICE piece of real estate to start my life out in. Just think, minus the subhuman scum ruining the place, we could move in, fix it up and then some, and live like kings. Drives me wild that I can only sit and look and IF I did move in and fix it, it would get trashed and I would get killed.

If we can’t educate these kids, where are they going to go? We can’t carry them, the world can’t carry them, and there is no way that anyone will WANT to carry them. It’s an impossibility. China and India have an uneducated peasant class, but they don’t pay for them to breed, so it’s not like it’s as bad as it is going to be over here. It’s not just circumstance and money, but also a mindset that has to be overcome. It’s something that is growing like a cancer and I have no CLUE on how we can either contain or lance the boil.

The Detroit schools were taken over by the state during Granholm’s administration, something about their being terribly run. Imagine. The kids need to be split up by gender and in uniforms, and maybe a lot of them just sold for medical experiments. Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize I typed that last part out loud.

Bob Bobb has been the best thing to happen to detroit schools

I continue to be amazed by the changes he has made. It will be sad to see him go. My high school was closed several years ago and my elementary school was closed last year. If you look at a Google street view of some of the neighborhoods which fed my grade school in NW Detroit you would understand why. What once were blocks of houses are now empty fields.
As for the 60 students per classroom, I do remember having 42 in my 3rd grade class. I did not notice that it was a problem for me. It may have been a lot of work for the teacher to correct all those papers though. Discipline in the era of the broken or nonexistent family, that's another story! Where would we be today if welfare had not destroyed the family!

Laughing, thanks.

I am really very glad that I am not working in the "D" this year.

I think Bob Bobb had an incredible task before him, and he did the very best he could. I don't know that anyone else will be able to do as much when he leaves.

Birwood Wall In Detroit

I'm from Detroit and live just north and I've never heard of the Birwood Wall. I've spent the last several hours looking at google maps of the neighborhood and reading accounts of the alleged wall and the only thing I can ascertain is that this wall is nothing but a contrived racist myth.

It's apparent to me that the wall in question is nothing more than a typical barrier erected to separate the houses on the western border of the Wells Memorial Playground from the park grounds itself.........

Furthermore, one only has to look at the architecture of the houses in that area to see that they are all the same and obviously built with no specific nationality in mind let alone with an intent to prevent Blacks from purchasing such houses. Since the article in question claims that "many blacks" lived in that area, thus the wall, it is unlikely that the white "racists" would have even considered moving into that area.

It's easy to understand why nobody has come forward to debunk this racist myth for to do so would label the individual a racist himself......
