February 21, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) Bernard Nathanson, the former abortionist turned top pro-life activist who is perhaps best known for his role in creating the pro-life video The Silent Scream, died at the age of 84 this morning after a lengthy battle with cancer, reports the National Catholic Register.
At one time Nathanson was deeply entrenched in the American pro-abortion movement, having co-founded the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and overseen 75,000 abortions as director of an abortion clinic.
Nathansons high-profile conversion to the pro-life movement was sparked by the advent of the ultrasound machine in the early 1970s. He has related how he was moved to acknowledge the humanity of the unborn child after he watched an unborn baby recoil from a vacuum abortion device before being sucked from its mothers womb.
Nathanson titled the video of this incident The Silent Scream and began using it to spread the pro-life message.

One prodigal son has gone home to his father, may he RIP.
Praise God that this man saw the light; he now enjoys eternity with his Savior!
I’m on my way to Mass. I will most certainly pray for Dr. Nathanson. May God bless him, may the Lord let His face shine upon him, & may He grant him eternal peace.
IIRC, Nathanson coined the term “pro choice”. He truly was one of architects of legalized abortion in America.
His story is one of the most powerful stories of redemption I’ve ever heard.
RIP, Mr. Nathanson.
Yes, he is living proof that people can change their minds/hearts and experience redemption! I think people like him and Norma McCorvey have a powerful testimony, so it’s sad that he’s no longer with us, but he’s with God now!
He’s in a far better place.
RIP Dr. Nathanson.
One mass murdering SOB going to his eternal fiery reward
God bless his conversion and activism after being on the wrong path, he will be missed.
May the Lord welcome him into His Kingdom to share in eternal glory.
“Silent Scream..was the first pro-life video I saw in my early days with Right to Life.”
Same here. I was on the other side when I was younger, but silent scream settled it for me.
This man repentended when he was faced with the truth about what happened in an abortion. He worked tirelessly for the pro life cause after his eyes were opened.
Maybe in your brand of religion redemption and forgiveness and renewal are not possible. I mine it is the most joyous news the Lord has given us. “Your sins are forgiven.”
I've never seen the whole thing... just parts of it. I really wish there was a modern-day version of the Silent Scream, now that we have better technology. It's definitely something that can change people's positions, when they see what is actually happening.
God bless his conversion and activism after being on the wrong path, he will be missed.
What did he think was being aborted before the sonogram? puppies?
I think people can be blind... I was once on the other side of this issue, when I was a lot younger. I was spiritually blind, but later I woke up and then changed my position. Happens to tons of people, as I’m sure you know.
BUMP!
well, it’s not up to me where he goes, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’ in some uncomfortable part of purgatory to repent a couple thousand more years.
