VAIL First lady Michelle Obama enjoyed locally grown fare at a Vail restaurant Saturday night before hitting the slopes of Vail Mountain early Sunday.
Obama and her two daughters, 9-year-old Sasha and 12-year-old Malia together with some family friends are spending the Presidents Day holiday weekend in Vail. President Obama did not make the trip.
The first lady went to Restaurant Kelly Liken in Vail Village on Saturday night, dining on a pickled pumpkin salad with arugula and a braised ancho-chile short rib with hominy wild mushrooms and sauteed kale.
Yes, it's true, the first lady dined at our restaurant tonight and seemed to really enjoy it, chef and owner Kelly Liken said.

Thanks for the assist.
Did you see that Drudge has the calorie count for these ribs, along with the recipe, on his site? Over 1700+ cals a SERVING!!!!
Michelle, SHUT UP and stop telling us what not to eat!!!
You would have had the whole mountain to ski, they were probably on the bunny hill.......
Food rationing for the servants, Ribs for the Queen!
This simple act of dining out on ribs, just shows what a two-faced, lying bunch is inhabiting the White House!
Question. Do these people EVER stay home? You know, the White House? If this was Laura and George Bush would the press be yawning about it? When we get a republican in the White House again, if these MSN morons DARE to question vacations, etc. I would hope that the entire country would jump down their throats or whatever it would take to remind them of their limp wristed handling of the Obama administration.
This sounds like something from an Ayn Rand novel!
FWIW,
TS
Still, I chafe at someone with those hips lecturing the rest of us on obesity and lean eating. Did you see the thread on their steak and lobster, cake and ice cream blowout the other night?
bttt
It is a very strong, almost bitter broad leafed Italian green.
My grandmother brought some seeds over from Sicily but her tribe called it "ladeek" and it was much stronger.
It was bitter but when she served it in a salad, it would be topped with hot bacon grease, onion and "dago red" wine. Still eat it today but not many folks like the strength when compared to the commercial "arugula".
and eatin' ur ribz...
Arugula is a green weed that I planted one year in my garden, and it comes back every year. It kind of tastes like wild dandelion leaves, which I also have plenty of.
I prefer the dandelion.
The sad part of the “hypocrisy” argument is that the left doesn’t even recognize it as such. Their belief system is entirely consistent, to them, about issues like this.
THEY have the intellect and the wisdom to be able to use resources or eat, etc, in moderation.
YOU, however, are not smart or wise enough to do so and need someone like them to tell you what to use/eat, and when to do so.
Entirely “consistent”, to them.
Obama Likens Budget to Family Pocketbook Choices (2/12/11)

“Portraying his fiscal choices as kitchen table budgeting, President Obama says he is making difficult cuts to allow needed spending increases in education, technology and basic infrastructure like roads and bridges”
Come’on everyone, this vacation represents kitchen table family budgeting. Vail and Ribs instead of Geneva and Kobe beef/lobster.
hypocrite
She would say it like this- “You don’t seem to underSHtand...”
and “My husband’s adminiSHtration...”
or “We must end all forms of diSHcrimination...”
...”SHtereotypes...”
...”voter regiSHtration...”
and so forth.
