I think the light sweet part is the real prob, though, much more than the amount. Especially since I think most of Europe’s refinieries can’t handle the ickier (hey, it’s a technical term) stuff? So if Europe has to import more gasoline/refined product, that’s gonna have prices going up for everyone.
I hear the ‘Rats’ answer is to tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve...
I grew up in Montana. I know about plugging in the car at night and unfreezing door locks. However, I’ve been gone for 20 years now and I still miss the mountains every day.
Are they really THAT nuts?
(rhetorical question, no need to answer)

I've had the good fortune to visit Montana. I don't blame you :)
Best map I could find on short notice. I'll look later after I get some work done.
In a word: Yup. I'd also add: stupid, shortsighted, venal...but you get the drift.

And Jean François was just over there playing footsie with Ferret Face.
1516: And a reminder of what the Indians being evacuated by their government are trying to escape - a resident of Tripoli just spoke to the BBC: “Many people are being killed right now in Tripoli, I just got a few phone calls from friends who witnessed people going out of mosques being shot at. I know one of the killed people - I was speaking to a friend, her brother in law got killed, I could hear screams. This is happening in an area called Zawyet al dahmani.”

Gadhafi has been tied to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obamas spiritual adviser for more than 23 years.
The Libyan dictator also has financed and strongly supported the Nation of Islam and its leader, Louis Farrakhan. Obama has ties to Farrakhan and his controversial group.

The Syrian Crackdown

Government forces act to shut down communications. Peaceful protesters are beaten by uniformed and plainclothes police, including at least two women. Regime thugs are dispatched to intimidate dissidents. Foreign journalists are monitored, and some are apparently barred from entering the country.
This isnt happening in Libya, but rather in Syria, whose dictator Bashar al-Assad has ruled for eleven years, taking over after 30 years of maximum leadership from his father. After nervously watching the uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya, Assad has been acting to crush his own dissident movement early. He can get a lot of crushing done while the attention of the world is focused on the final days of Moammar Qaddafi.
Assad is a far more cunning monster than the exhausted Mubarak or deranged Qaddafi. He hangs on to power with a number of clever techniques, such as the political influence of the fascist Baath Party. Mubaraks power base was a dwindling number of super-rich cronies, who found themselves living in a sea of desperately poor citizens, protected by an army that valued its own prestige above loyalty to the regime. Assad, like Saddam Hussein, uses the Baath Party to get a larger percentage of the populace plugged into his power structure, giving them far more latitude to oppress the dickens out of everyone who doesnt belong. Dictatorship is much easier when a sizable minority of the country signs up to be your friend on Facebook.
