Michele Bachmann and the politics of Minnesota
NY Post ^ | February 19, 2011 | JAMES LILEKS

Minnesota is confused. Minnesota confuses everyone, if they bother to look. One year it’s a governor who would sooner saw off the arm he uses to cast a fishing rod than raise taxes; the next it’s Al Franken, who would raise taxes to subsidize auto-amputations. (Your body, your choice.) The state that elected Paul Wellstone and Jesse “The Body” Ventura.

In 2010, the House and Senate of the local legislature flipped to the GOP; the people also elected a Democrat governor, Mark Dayton, who promptly proposed taxes on the “rich.” He understands what it’s like to struggle, having sold off a Renoir to help fund his campaign. Folks like that man-of-the-people stuff. The state sent Keith Ellison, famous for taking the oath of office on Thomas Jefferson’s old Koran, back to the national House — and re-elected Michele Bachmann, who is anti-matter to Ellison. If they shake hands, the universe explodes.

How did Bachmann come to represent the only state to vote against Reagan in 1984? She represents the 6th District in Minnesota — a mixed bag of suburbs and exurbs hugging the north face of Minneapolis-St. Paul like a hand clutching a rock. There’s quasi-rural counties with picturesque chi-chi river towns to the east and weary commercial strips to the west. Like many suburban districts whose residents work in the city but prefer to live in a house that’s not six feet from its neighbor, it leans Republican, but not so much that it falls over; the House seat has ping-ponged between the GOP and the Democratic Farmer-Labor party for the last 30 years. Bachmann’s won the last three elections. In 2008, she beat a fellow with the Disneyesque name of Elwyn Tinklenberg by three points. In the last election she stomped her opponent, 52% to 38%.

The public employee unions have been gang raping this country like the Egyptian mob that gang raped CBS reporter Lara Logan last week...

I honestly hope all members of the SEIU mandate their members wear purple colored uniforms.

The Purple Peoples Zampolit. The new communist political officers.

First off, let me say that I LOVE Michele Bachmann. I contributed in my own modest way to two of her campaigns. I am one of her fans.

That said....I am deeply troubled by her presidential exploration at this time, for reasons I will detail. I will be disappointed in her if she does it, especially if Palin runs.

Here are my thoughts, flame away:

1. Michele Bachmann has little experience in public office, and NONE as an executive.

2. When Bachmann was being matched in nationally raised funds, and the race was too close for FReeper comfort, (from Pelosi’s Army), she wisely called in the calvary...Palin...to raise money for her race. The race with her idiot opponent was tight for MB at the time; the Palin fundraiser turned the tide. For MB to run against Palin (provided SP is running at all) is off-putting. Don’t call on someone to save your bacon and then reward them by becoming an opponent in six months, no?

3. Bachmann has not been vetted (tormented) the way Palin has. The way you will know this is the media will trot out “victims” of Bachmann’s husband. He is a professional in the mental health field and believes, evidently, that you can counsel people out of homosexuality. This may or may not be true, I don’t know. But I can promise you the second that real, live, human being victims come forward, it will be the end of Michele Bachmann. This notion won’t play in Peoria, as they say.

4. When the press starts “carding up” the statements she has made over the years, look out.

5. MB has held public office since 2001. SP is younger and served in public office since 1992. That is, btw, almost 1/2 of SP’s adult life. That’s quite a difference and quite a record.

6. Finally, can we expect our heroes to be just that, heroes? We learned some weeks ago that Mike Pence will be leaving the House. (any chance he’d run for Lugar’s seat in the Senate, btw?) Now we learn Michele Bachmann is looking to the White House. Mind you, this is a lady that cannot win her own state. meh This week we learn that the Republicans have double-crossed the Tea Party on the spending cuts. Shouldn’t Michele Bachmann stay in the House and make it her personal mission to kick Eric Cantor to the curb??????

This crap will only change when the ordinary citizen begins to take an interest and understand what’s at stake, In the meantime these well healed politicians can sell the average
Joe a line of crap, will it ever happen? I doubt it.

Why I changed my tagline... Used to be 'Palin/Bachmann '12'

I understand.

So far, the only possible candidate for POTUS that “used” Palin is Michele Bachmann.

Not Newt, not Santorum, not Huck, not Romney, not Huntsman, not Daniels, not Thune, and all the rest.

If Bachmann continues, it will be instructive. And disappointing (at least to me) as a measure of character.

Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that the fundraising skills of MB were from SP fans. She cannot count on it in the future if she runs against SP. There are a bunch of MB fans who donated to her because of Palin. We won’t do it if she is runs against SP.

While every point you make is valid and makes total and complete sense, I’ll bet dollars to donuts that Sarah would tell MB to “run, baby run” and whichever stood the test the ladder would support the victor.

Its early, still about 4am for me in Alaska, intellect suffers. Cannot sleep, not wanting to be asleep when I can be part of something even in a small flyspeck bit.

It is funny how the Left likes to compare this to the Egypt situation when their pet unions have been engaging in a “sustained and brutal” gang raping of this country for decades...

Civility?

I don’t think so...

And recall, or research the rape, pillage and slaughter the Red Terror left in its wake all across Eastern Europe...

These public employee thugs are no different...

I’m talking about public employee unions in particular...

This is a union of the voting public and they are subverting our votes, and in many cases corrupting honest elections with voter fraud...

I think it’s fair to say that public employee unions have been performing fiscal sodomy on the public for generations.

They have been raping this country every way possible.

It looks like I have picked up a stalker troll here, a sleeper tool of the SEIU... scroll up the thread...
