A distraught mother has told how her two terrified children cowered in terror as their family pet was mauled to death by two dogs that forced their way into their home.
Mother-of-four Sam Thomas, 34, said she barricaded herself and two of her children in their lounge because the rampaging animals were threatening Harmony, 12, Vanessa, 9.
The attack left their nine-month-old Borzoi dog, Mika, dead and a police dog handler with a dislocated shoulder.
..............'They became aggressive towards the children so I got the kids in through the back door. 'But the dogs followed them and forced their way through a door which I was trying to close.
'Mika was in a cage in the hallway and I was forced to barricade myself and the children into the living room. They attacked the cage and ripped Mika apart.
'If the dog was not there I think they would have attacked the children in the same way. 'My husband, Richard, arrived just before police.
'He tried to use a garden hoe to get them away from Mika, but the one dog snapped it, they bit through a metal broom and tried to attack him..............

Any home that doesn't have such basic equipment in a safe room, winds up on the losing end.
Although, I have to credit Mom on this one. She did good with what she had. Sacrifice the dog to save the kids.
Democrats, clearly. Since no mention of breed in post.
Good advice, except this was in the UK. No guns for civilians.
It was either going to be dogs or yutes.
Either way they have more rights than the homeowners.
They are Brits, not Democrats. The breed is Pit Bull.
Reading is fundamental.
Last time I checked no cat has gone crazy trying to kill people(housecats I mean).
Love the name BTW....
Sense of irony clearly not fundamental.
The modern compound bow is the basic answer for this kind of problem when guns would be too noisy or conspicuous.
If I read Brit law correctly, had the homeowner used a gun to end the threat, she would be in custody now, looking at a likely life sentence, with the aggrieved dog owner positioned to claim millions an a lawsuit.
We did well to separate from that island of eternal doofazoidism; but the war continues over here with our own who would descend to the same level of moronic thinking.
This place used to get that kind of humor...not sure what went wrong.
Never seen a dog walk away from a hoe fight. Depends on who has the hoe.
One of the stories from a couple of years ago was about a similar
incident. The attack may have started outside, but the dog followed them inside.
The two cops that were first on scene had to necessarily repeat to the
extent that a smoke alarm was set off by the amount of rounds
required to put the beast down.
Guns are illegal in England. Idiots
Crap, they look like Wisconsin TEACHERS.
Thanks for getting it. I actually started to explain the irony had nothing to do with nationality. And that I did read, followed the link to the story, which did reveal, high in the story, that one was a pit bull, the other a Staffordshire terrier, but anytime you have to explain irony, the effort is wasted. Amusing the poster left out the party affiliation, though.
Imagine a wink after the last sentence.
You read British law incorrectly.
