UNITED NATIONS -- Somalia's U.N. Mission said Friday that pirates hijacked a yacht carrying four U.S. citizens in the Indian Ocean off the Somali coast.

Time for lesson Two. :-)
So you are a fan of the sniper that took out the Pirates holding the Capt. of the Maersk Containership? Good. He made the right decision at just the right moment, and put the pirates out of the Captain’s misery.
It wasn’t Obama’s call.
Wrong, wrong, it is a pleasure craft, if it was a us flagged vessel it would not be pleasure craft. Second I don’t plan on having a navy to hold peoples hands, keeps you ass home. Other than that we can send some care boxes.
All we deed is a couple of our new Frigates. Send over the Freedom. Lets see what she can do.
He’s not heavy, he’s my brother.
Am I under the mistaken impression that he gave the order? If so, could you provide a little background so I can correct myself?
Trade Jimmy Carter for the hostages now!
Sorry, but privately-owned yachts can still be “U.S. flagged”. Lots of them are.
I don’t know if you’re a sailor or not, but I guess we just disagree here.
“A ship in port is safe, but that’s not what ships are for.” — Adm. Grace Hopper, USN.
I love that movie. It just has this rhythm to it that makes it very enjoyable. In fact most of Wes Anderson’s movies have that.
Bummer (just barely) had pirates gunned down in early 2009. The least he could do is call for an encore.
I have only the memory of reading about it at the time, but Obama was attempting to get his FBI people involved at the time. There was a standing order not rescinded by subsequent Obama orders to stand down, and to not fire on the pirates. That standing order was the “excuse” the sniper, and his duty Commander needed to open fire should the safe opportunity to do so arise, and it did, and the rest is history.
Were it up to Obama the Capt. of the Maersk might still be in the hands of the pirates, or dead.
Thanks for the info.
We are spending billions on African and Central command-—why no results? Who’s holding business up? We can’t even use special forces to go clean out a snakes nest? Why not?
I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again: The Iowa class battleship is quite simply the prettiest thing ever put to sea. Great lines.
It’s probably cost prohibitive to rehab them thoroughly enough, and repower them as nuclear. But dang... if only we could build a couple of new ones... nuclear powered... armored to the hilt... some big guns... some missiles... [sigh]
The odd thing is that they’re probably the only ships in the inventory that might actually survive a modern missile strike.
Being captured by pirates counts as being 'mugged' - they might be ex-liberals by now...
It really doesn’t matter, it is still not the business of the government, you nanny stater’s get me. I did not send them over there so it is not my problem. If you are dumb enough to climb out on a window ledge on a 100 story building, i’ll be the guy yelling jump.

People that do stupid things deserve what they get.
