I understand what you’re saying. Tho, it isn’t always that black & white.

The difference is that moslems are people & Islam is an ideology, doctrine, religion, political/social system, etc.. which (ideally) a person (a moslem) should be able to choose to follow & practice fully, partially, or not at all. But Islam, itself, essentially, does not allow that choice.

Examples:

There are those who were born moslems (to moslem parents). That is they did not choose to be moslems themselves. If they leave Islam, or convert to another religion, they are still viewed as moslems but also as apostates by orthodox moslems as well as by fundamental tenets of Islam itself. Apostates can be punished, often severely.

There are also those who were born moslems (to moslem parents), who do not adhere to or practice/follow everything taught by their orthodox clerics or said in the Koran. IOW, they have their own interpretations of what Islam means. This group, whilst viewed as moslems by non-moslems, is considered as ‘fake’ or ‘deviant’ moslems by their orthodox moslem counterparts because they do not follow Islamic tenets, beliefs & laws by the letter.

So, unfortunately & at present, it seems Islam itself is the problem, because of its strict dogma. Again, moslems are people, and people can choose, but Islam itself doesn’t leave much room for “choice”. At least not without punishment for deviation.

If they can choose, they can choose not to be islamic which means they are not evil. If they choose to be, they are evil.

The thing is, islam has no concept of free will, so I can understand how they can have a twisted view but anyone rational shouldn’t fall for that.

Idealogy is not like a genetic thing. After a certain age they are entirely complicit with their idealogy and everything that goes with it. This is especially true on a personal level.

There are some truly stupid ones that don’t know any better, but that doesn’t clear them of sticking to a fundamnetally anti-human idealogy after they have grown up. Stupidity is the closest thing you can come to that ‘absolves’ them, but that doesn’t work for me.
