You make a good point.
Unfortunately a perfectly reasonable point of view has been made toxic. We’re through the looking glass....
Palin did, however, distance herself from the so-called birthers, who believe Obama was not born in the United States, and others who contend he is not Christian, as he insists, but Muslim. She said she does not question the president’s faith or citizenship and added, “It’s distracting. It gets annoying. Let’s stick with what really matters.”
I’d never vote for her now . No better than the rest of the RINOS on this issue .
No political or media figure is going to support "birthers" until they prove something!
Until, then, it is all speculation -- one step beyond rumor. Thus, unreportable...and unsupportable.
Fact of life.
“Obama will brand her as a flip-flopper.”
Just as she can call his talk (not action) on ‘transparency’ a flip flop.
It maters if the court can force the exposure, and if there are any in Congress with the fortitude to press it home. RINOs have no stomach for that. By the time of the 2012 election, what the Kenyan Fraud has to say about Palin, will be irrelevant. It would be like breaking wind in a hurricane..

The situation is too far past the point of being able to be handled properly.
If (and it's a massive, huge, nearly insurmountable IF in my book), there is anything to it, the birthers themselves have made the issue too toxic to touch.
Too many have made a point of questioning whether or not Obama's mother was his mother, whether or not his aunt was his mother, whether or not his grandfather was his father, and so on. They've called him and his family members insulting, demeaning names. They've accused him of being involved in his grandmother's death. They've pinned their hopes on nuts, frauds, and convicted hoaxers. They've called members of the military "cowards" when they refuse to join them in their quest. They've done the same with judges, accusing them of treason if they don't vote the way birthers want them to vote. Everything has become one massive, huge, all-encompassing conspiracy theory.
If I were Obama, I'd be wishing every single day that someone who aspires to national office would actively join the birthers.
All Obama would have to do is show off all the things that have been said and written, and he'd be set. "Look! They're making fun of my dead mother and grandparents. They're associating with convicted hoaxers. They say I may have killed my grandmother. And you, (name of candidate) agree with them!"
It is not unreasonable to ask for more transparency from someone seeking the highest office in the land. One need not engage in conspiracy theories to demand that such an office holder be more forthcoming.
You are absolutely correct. It's not at all unreasonable to demand transparency. But the absence of transparency doesn't mean that the next logical thing to do is to engage in name calling and conspiracy mongering.
Yes, or a resonable facsimile.
Even a reasonable facsimile is as good as another vote for Romney.
She (Palin) said it was unwise for Republicans to keep doubts alive about the authenticity of President Obamas birth certificate and citizenship, saying: Its distracting. It gets annoying. Lets stick with what really matters.
I have been a fan of Sarah Palin from the beginning, but I am very disappointed with this statement from her.
Just as the Bible is the written WORD and the authority for Christians, so is the Constitution the written word and the authority for our civic life in these United States. It is the very foundation of this land. We are a nation of laws protected by our Constitution. When the Constitution is ignored for the sake of money (the economy as Palin called it), we are in deep trouble. Without our Constitution, we are at the mercy of the world’s moneychangers.
My family survived and flourished during the great depression. Not with money, but with hard work, gardens, making their own clothing, etc. My great grandparents had 13 children.
Without the Constitution, the economy will be the least of the worries of we the people.
Where Obama was born is of little concern to me. He is not eligible for President because he is not a natural born citizen. He has told us over and over that his father was a Kenyan student visiting the US for school. Why have none of our so called leaders shown concern about this FACT?
In light of our Constitution, does that make sense?
Accepting their position means that anyone from anywhere (with any kind of world view) can seduce a teenager and provide the means for that child to became the President of our country. Many have described our President as the most powerful leader in the world. America is the light to the world because of what she stands for...Freedom of THE PEOPLE. Without the words of our Constitution, we are not a free people. This very “distraction”, as they call it, proves it. We are not free to legitimately question our leaders without fear of ridicule.
Words are VERY important.
I actually believe it is because he was so open about his Kenyan father—and the GOP were so unwilling to address the natural born definition in light of that—that makes the issue a nonstarter at this point.
But either way, I thought she handled it perfectly: she rather pointedly didn’t dismiss or contradict the claims of the birthers; instead, she steered the conversation to and said the focus should be on the pressing issues of the country (and what Obama was imposing on us).
Even if you were to believe the birther issue is a winner for our side, I don’t believe we should expect our presidential candidates to do the heavy lifting on it: that is a classically losing approach. Had Palin spoken differently, I believe she would have been at risk of eliminating herself from presidential viability, which would be a real loss.
She’s Juan McLame in high heels.
That said, I think Sarah's advice is spot on. We should focus on getting the man out of office.
Once that's done, then is the time to investigate. When it is proven that his presidency was illegitimate, all that he has done becomes undone and our new, conservative President will have two Supreme Court vacancies to fill!
If we move too soon, Biden might be the one who nominates trhe replacements for Kagan and Sotomajor!!
Think harder.
Think President Boehner
I am convinced the only way this whole eligible/ineligible issue will be resolved is via the states. Right now the lack of required proof of eligibility by the states is a huge gaping whole in our system. A minor party candidate already exploited it and was on the ballot in 18 states. (There were 18 SOSs that couldn't be bothered with actually doing more then plotting to run for higher state-wide offices!) whether Zero also exploited that hole remains to be seen. (I am agnositc on whether he is or isn't. He is hiding something and I want to know what it is! In fact his lawyers already admitted it early on that he is hiding something and it's embarrassing!)
After 2012 I doubt if anyone other then a historian will bother to get to the truth. Zero viewed as a “Carter” with an additional asterisk regarding this controversy, making him a Carter-Chester Alan Arthur POTS.
The "birth certificate" is irrelevant to the "eligibility issue". Where Obama was born is irrelevant. What is on his birth certificate is irrelevant. Whether such a birth certificate even exists is irrelevant to the "eligibility issue".
The issue is that Obama's father was never a US Citizen, most pertinently, not a US citizen at the time of Obama's birth. Therefore, Obama is not a Natural Born Citizen (born in the country to two parents who are citizens at the time of birth). Therefore, Obama is not, never was, and never will be, eligible to be the President of the United States of America, according to the US Constitution.
Such a person born with one or both parents not being US citizens will always present the possibility of having divided allegiances, the very possibility that the framers of the Constitition deliberately chose to avoid with the Natural Born Citizen clause.
Everyone serving in Congress knows this;
Everyone working in the Administration knows this;
Everyone on the US Supreme Court knows this;
Probably most people working in the media know this;
Everyone who has ever attended law school knows this;
Everyone serving in state legislatures, and in state governorships knows this;
... regardless of what they say about it publicly.
The eligibility issue needs to be addressed, but NOT by any of the conservative candidates who are not currently sitting in any official position to actually do something about it. The candidates need to focus on the "important" issues, just as they are doing, to get this Obamanation out of office.
The Supreme Court should have addressed this eligibility issue long and let the chips fall where they may. Now it is too late. If the nation survives the next two years, it is imperative that every single Supreme Court justice be impeached, at the very least, along with every federal judge at lower levels who have facilitated this fraud.
Active governors and state legislators need to close the gaps in state election laws, ballot rules, voter registration fraud, and voter fraud.
For candidates yet to be elected, the eligibility issue is foul-smelling bait in a political death trap.
It is very telling that no one is demanding that Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty, Daniels, Christie, Pence, Johnson, Thune, Ron Paul, Gingrich, and the others (maybe even Rick Perry), stick their necks out and speak up about the eligibility issue.
Obama is not a lock for 2012, he probably won't even be running, and if he does, he probably won't be on the ballot in several states, if there is even an election.
The difference between a candidate for any particular office and a person who is currently holding such an office, is that millions of people, including the treasonous media, are currently looking for any "distracting issues" with which to keep other candidates from ever winning the election to that office. In war or politics, defending turf is much easier than gaining turf.
Here would be a neat experiment. Why don't you appeal to the current sitting official President of the USA to get this eligibility issue resolved? Think about this for a minute, and maybe some of these clues will start to click into place.
No, Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore.
Think of all the lawyers/law professors who are in the BO Administration and who support BO. How do they reconcile what they've learned with their support of BO?
Excellent and well-stated summation of the essential facts and legal/constitutional principles involved.
Thanks you for your efforts to cut through the massive amount of distraction, misdirection and deception with which this issue is being framed in the public debate.
How does any corrupt person or crook of any stature reconcile what they know to be wrong with what they do?
I'd much rather have President Palin appoint the replacements.
