True, but I don’t think the U.S. would ever allow Egypt to abrogate the treaty in a manner which threatens our interests. In fact, I think the U.S. is perfectly comfortable with an “open access” arrangement under which even our avowed enemies are permitted to move military vessels through the Canal. See my previous discussion of the 1956 Suez Canal dispute as an example of such an odd arrangement.
