I think American voters would do better to think about the influence political leaders exert by their words and actions, instead of treating their speeches (not to mention their sound bites and 60-second spots) as evidence of anything but what they think we want to hear. This came to mind last week as I read the report about Sarah Palin's non-appearance at this year's biggest conservative non-event (or should that be biggest non-conservative, pretending-to-be-conservative event?). She released a statement intended to keep her distance from the individuals and organizations whose non-appearance was meant to convey disapproval of CPAC's trendy surrender to the homosexual lobby.
Why, you rightly ask, would someone touted as the maverick spokesman for the pro-life, pro-family tea-party grass roots of the GOP be anxious to make it clear that she had no problem with the push to make GOProud an icon of conservative legitimacy? "Palin suggested that conservative groups had more important issues to worry about than which groups were attending the conference. 'There are so many life-changing, life-and-death issues out there in front of us. You know, we'd better be concentrating on what is really important here.

LOL
Bush was not the consensus FReeper Candidate and you know it.
I’ve tried to be positive with Sarah but continue to have an uneasiness in the pit of my stomach. I’m more into Michele Bachman but if it’s Sarah vs Romney - it’s Sarah hands down.
To 8 - LOL
I did not say that. I said he had tons of freepers backing him. And when it got to McCain v Bush, alot more jumped on the bandwagon.
Ouch!
Guarantee that, if Sarah Palin joined Al-Qaeda....the Palinistas would be spinning it like Al-Qaeda was a conservative group.
It is obvious that Palin is not conservative. And, it is obvious that was the reason John McCain picked her as his running mate.
Bachman displayed a lack of knowledge of history in her Tea Party SOTU rebuttal speech that the leftist media will not give her a pass on. If or when she becomes the Conservative candidate, they will eat her alive - just as they have Governor Palin.
Alan Keyes? The guy who brought us Barack Hussein Muhammed Obama, Junior, aka Barry Soetobakh, aka Soetobakh Dunham, aka Barry Soetoro?! Thats who youre clinging to? Tell me: What election has Alan Keyes ever won? What makes him any more an authority on this or any other subject than you or I or the man on the street? WorldNutDaily? Seriously?!
Considering no other GOP candidate was willing to run against Obama for the IL Senate Seat....Keyes did not bring about Obama....you need to blame the guy who fooled around on his hot actress wife.
In fact, anyone aiding and abetting Obama now is Sarah Palin...who recently dismissed and dissed the Birthers trying to find out if Obama is Constitutionally able to serve. Contrary to Palin....the Obama Birther thing is a major issue.
As for elections won....yes Palin has one meaningful one...which she quit about halfway thru. I believe Dr Keyes fulfilled his highest office a little more through its term
Keyes is planning to run for president again?
Such a memorable wink. I believe she’ll be our candidate. Will you vote for Bambi?
In this 2011 piece he just sounds nuts. Maybe he's become deranged by guilt for failing to prevent the rise of Barack Obama.
>you need to blame the guy who fooled around on his hot actress wife.
Jack Ryan didn’t “fool around”. Jeri claimed during their divorce proceedings that he tried to proposition her for sex in public and took her to kinky sex clubs. The key word here being “claimed”. As Ann Coulter pointed out, in divorce cases, false allegations are not exactly uncommon to say the least. And Keyes WAS a poor candidate.
Sometimes I wonder if FR is infested with trolls trying to divide the "big tent" of conservatism. In this case, I think Piss is just being his usual cantankerous self, in need of attention.
Did you support his call for slavery reparations? I saw him make it and he was as sincere as always. Dems laugh because it is so easy to fool and divide conservatives.
As usual, Alan’s political detractors can’t refute a single word he says. All they can do is react the exact same way Obama supporters react.
But, with this article, he nails it again.
Sarah Palin has little, if any, understanding of the underlying moral disease that is killing the American republic. The best she can manage is occasional lip service to a vague understanding of some of the symptoms. When it isn’t too costly to do so.
Not only does Keyes understand it, he knows how to cure it. But he doesn’t get a chance to prove it, primarily because of all the phonies who call themselves “conservative” but don’t even really understand what that word really means in the American context. They do the Left’s Alinskyite dirty work for them.
I though acceptance was what they wanted?
What a man does in his own house being his own business, is a long time held Alaskan tradition.
Once when I first came to Alaska in early 90's I noticed that I had a neighbor who was having all kinds of traffic from his house. The guy was doper and it was obvious he was selling drugs. I mentioned to an elderly neighbor (in his late 80's)and he responded that it wasn't any of my business what he did at his own house and also added that Alaskans didn't want this place turning into the lower 48. This guy was ultra conservative, well respected, and had been elected in the MatSu to positions of authority throughout his lifetime; he wasn't pro drugs in any sense of the word but libertarian and didn't even know it.
You find quite a few people like that in Ak. How people like Palin come to the fore front in the first place.
