I recall a radio interview with a Republican Texas state senator, many years ago; when the GOP senators were hiding out, to stop passage of some bill. The reclusive Senator was asked whether he feared the voters would punish him, at the next election. He replied (in a thick drawl): “the only way a sitting Texas Senator won’t be reelected; is if he’s caught in bed with a live man, or a dead woman”. The (female) interviewer sputtered and stammered, but was otherwise rendered speechless.

“GOP senators were hiding out”

I am fairly certain that was the Democrats, and it was two years ago.

The “he’s caught in bed with a live [boy’, or a dead woman” quote was about the Governor of Louisiana, many years ago.

Sorry, but those were sorry ass DEMOCRATS who didn't want to allow the re-districting of Congressional districts! The GOP never walked away from their jobs!

Huey Long was the one who originally said that. He said the only way he wouldn't be re-elected was if he were caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.

There have been two incidents of Texas Senators leaving the state to prevent the state from conducting business. The first was the 1979 "Killer Bees" incident. The second was in 2003 when 11 senators left to kill redistricting. In both instances, the senators leaving the state were all Democrats.
