Town with nine bins for every home (to save the environment and EU Unions)

The research found that in Newcastle-under-Lyme, residents are asked to sort their waste into nine different bins and bags.

A further 20 councils provide seven bins for food waste, different recycling streams and other rubbish. More than 100 town halls ask residents to sort rubbish into 5 or more bins.

Residents in these areas say it is impossible to find room in the house for all the different bins and complain that the system is “too complicated and complex”.

In Newcastle-under-Lyme Council, north Staffordshire, residents are asked to dump food waste in a silver slop bucket for food waste, which is then emptied into a larger, green outdoor bin every week. There is a pink bag for plastic bottles, a blue box for glass, foil, tins and aerosols, a green bag for cardboard, a white bag for textiles and blue bags for paper and magazines, which are all collected on alternate weeks with garden waste and black bin bags.

Sylvia Butler, 59, a retired teacher and former councillor in the area, said many residents are just dumping recycling in black bin bags rather than bothering to sort waste.

“It is too complicated and too complex,” she said. “Other areas have three containers, we have nine, it is just too confusing,” she said.

“At a time when council budgets are already under extreme pressure, councils will not want to spend money on unnecessary bins so that they can meet recycling targets and avoid being hit by heavy European Union fines.....

....It’s just an excuse to fine people.

Much like yearly "safety" inspections on cars!

Just send us the damn tax bill!

There would be some dissent, I’m sure. Some group would be protesting, demanding the town council supply knee pads.

Time to recycle our way of thinking about the circus act they’ve set out for us to perform.

Your lack of cooperation is ruining Act I. How can they move on to Act II if you don't do your part?

Recycling is BULL SH*T. It’s a waste of time, money and resources and uses far more energy than it “saves”.

..........Free enterprise is great.

I bet you can remember when it was possible to call your doctor, go in the same day or the next day, get time with the doctor and pay your bill before you left. And carried a health insurance policy for catastrophic health costs.

People would die in the streets from their injuries, because of people like you and me, who don’t want the government to supply knee pads and free medical care.

Makes sense to assign some of the responsibility to the consumer.
My responsibility as a consumer, as I see it, is to pay the asking price for the article I want to buy (assuming I agree that the price is worth it to me) and to pay for it with money I earned honestly with my own work.

And then to not litter with the resulting trash.

Anti-litter laws make sense. I must throw my trash and garbage away properly and not dump it in the street or on other people's property or in public parks or other public land.

But "recycling" is BS. It is one of the sacraments of the Religion of Environmentalism.

I am not going to the Trak auto today to buy some motor oil and then go to the bay and pour it into the blowhole of some endangere3ed dolphin. However, recycling is feel-good BS that costs more in time, money, energy than it is worth.

Garbage is garbage
That is the best summation of this issue because it applies not only to the garbage that goes in our landfills but to the "thinking" that goes on inside the "minds" of our "environmentalists".

Interesting point, bringing up motor oil. I mean there is a place for sensible laws that deal with the proper disposal of certain types of substances, such as paint, motor oil and other “problem” substances. But in general, GARBAGE IS GARBAGE and should go in the garbage can to be picked up by the garbage truck on garbage day.

Wait. I take back the word “law”. I mean “sensible rules” in place by those who pick up the garbage relating to problem substances like oil and paint.
