The research found that in Newcastle-under-Lyme, residents are asked to sort their waste into nine different bins and bags.
A further 20 councils provide seven bins for food waste, different recycling streams and other rubbish. More than 100 town halls ask residents to sort rubbish into 5 or more bins.
Residents in these areas say it is impossible to find room in the house for all the different bins and complain that the system is “too complicated and complex”.

In Newcastle-under-Lyme Council, north Staffordshire, residents are asked to dump food waste in a silver slop bucket for food waste, which is then emptied into a larger, green outdoor bin every week. There is a pink bag for plastic bottles, a blue box for glass, foil, tins and aerosols, a green bag for cardboard, a white bag for textiles and blue bags for paper and magazines, which are all collected on alternate weeks with garden waste and black bin bags.
Sylvia Butler, 59, a retired teacher and former councillor in the area, said many residents are just dumping recycling in black bin bags rather than bothering to sort waste.
“It is too complicated and too complex,” she said. “Other areas have three containers, we have nine, it is just too confusing,” she said.

The fundamental dishonesty of the environmental movement is appallingly brazen.
Parts of Japan have been doing something like this for a while. Makes sense to assign some of the responsibility to the consumer.

Recycling in the home is a waste of time, effort and money. Besides forced recycling is contrary to everything we stand for. Go to the liberal Kos sites.
I think “train” is the operative word here. People get brainwashed pretty easy. - We recycle after a fashion in a countrified way. Newspapers go to the local auction house for people to wrap their purchases in; we garden and have composted for almost 25 years. Our dogs covet every bite of scrap and vegetable juice left over. Plastic bags go to the thrift shops for bagging things they sell. No way I’m gonna heat the water to wash out glass mayonnaise jars and tin cans.

Yeah, and not too long ago they were making Banzai! charges and crashing flimsy airplanes into big metal ships.

When our town transfer station implemented state mandated “recycling” I joked to the town treasurer that we ought to get a rebate on our transfer station bumber stickers. She got really serious and told me she had to pay BFI $60,000 a year to haul the “recyclables”. Most of them went to a landfill in Michigan. That’s on top of the residents’ and town’s cost and hassle of handling the different bins.
I made a point of placing putrifying, unwashed catfood cans in the bins in July.
Who benefitted? Not the “environment”, we just moved from a local landfill to one a thousand miles away, which is clearly environmentally counterproductive. The beneficiary was BFI. For a lousy $60,000 a year they made the whole town jump through hoops. Of course they were aided and abetted by nitwits in the statehouse, including Bill Weld.
BTW, Ontario was doing the same thing, abluting themselves in an act of overarching moral preening, while shipping landfill to Michigan.
The Germans started in a simple fashion...separate paper from regular garbage. Then they tagged on plastic as a separate deal. Then batteries, etc, etc. They aren’t up to nine but I would suspect they will be there by 2020. It is true...’train’ is the key phrase. To back up the training...you also need garbage police walking around, to examine your bins, and then you turn into a police-garbage state.
I guess it depends on how you look at it.
I guess we think differently.

It is like the sodomy laws...whether you condemn or accept homosexuality, the bottom line is...do we want to have laws in place that would mandate an level of intrusiveness to enforce (if you aren’t going to enforce them, why have them on the books?)
You are correct. Of course, Garbage Police can have other types of things to keep an eye on as well.
