I think “train” is the operative word here. People get brainwashed pretty easy. - We recycle after a fashion in a countrified way. Newspapers go to the local auction house for people to wrap their purchases in; we garden and have composted for almost 25 years. Our dogs covet every bite of scrap and vegetable juice left over. Plastic bags go to the thrift shops for bagging things they sell. No way I’m gonna heat the water to wash out glass mayonnaise jars and tin cans.
