CBS News says that correspondent Lara Logan was attacked and sexually assaulted last Friday in Cairos Tahrir Square while filming a piece for 60 Minutes.
From the CBS News statement:
On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS Correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into a frenzy.
In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.
There will be no further comment from CBS News and Correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.
I’m surprised this doesn’t happen to more of our Western reporter babes covering the Muslim zone. Those guys regard uncovered women as whores and fair game.
A dangerous element? I thought this was democracy in action. I guess it was, she voted against the assault and the others voted for it.
She’d better watch out.....next thing we know they’ll try to kill her for the crime of being assaulted.
I just don’t feel sorry for reporters that put themselves in dangerous situations while denying the evil elements around them.
So why the hell would you release this then?
Google her name and you'll get at least 50 hits on the story. This is about the best publicized “privacy” story I've ever seen!
Sounds like a typical street festival for muslim males
I had Christian friends who attended a festival and whose daughters, when threatened, were taken off the streets and protected in the homes of valiant Copts
Yeah this culture has so much to teach the west about morality
Although I'm hesitant to make a political point off the back of her tragedy, but...this should be a cautionary tale for those who wish to put American Service women in direct, front-line combat roles. In that part of the world, this isn't an isolated incident.
Why dont they use the word RAPE ???
Is it PC to admit that Barry’s pals are rapists ???
exactly, did no one think that sending a young pretty blond wearing a low cut top into the middle of a lawless situation in the middle east of all places was smart thing to do. These guys really do treat women worse than cattle.
She is lucky to be alive. Reason number 1,333 why women should steer clear of Muslim scumbag countries.
Whew.... after we were told how peaceful this thing went.
These scum bags will do a hell of a job governing a country. So glad our prez thinks they practice the “religion of peace”.
As far as the MSM is concerned, this is the only newsworthy rape at the festivities.
If it was done by the people the MSM wasn’t cheering for we would have heard about this story within minutes.
She was not smart enough to cover up like the Egyptian woman, tight reveling clothing is the same as her being naked.
bump that
