On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.
In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.
There will be no further comment from CBS News and Correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.
[begin op comment]
Knew something was going on when she was not on air from here in US after returning to CONUS.
This rumor has been working for a few days, and was all but confirmed by the lack of comment or denials from anyone at Black Rock or West 57th.
Some may say Logan has a checkered past, but nothing deserves this!
When 3 CBS engineers were killed by a perp years ago, Rather went into a (well deserved) on-air outrage. This time, there will probably be nothing, because, Lord knows, we don’t want to upset the “Arab Street.” Source with many years in SWA says many Muslims will approve of this, because, it was an infidel getting what she deserved.
When will the rest of America wake up?
In pictures of the protest at the square it was remarkable that the Egyptian women were so well covered.
One has to assume she or her superiors noticed it yet made the decision to ignore the mores of the locals and send her in uncovered.
No, she didn’t ‘deserve’ the horrible things done to her, no more than one who runs a stop sign ‘deserves’ to be maimed the rest of their life.
But yes, her attire was very probably a contributing factor. Women do not have the freedoms there we take for granted.
And it will only get worse for them.
Do you have sympathy for Anderson Cooper who was also hit and beaten?
I have lived a total of nine years in three Islamic countries. Logan was stupid to go into that crowd dressed like she was. I am not saying that she deserved what she got, but it was a very foolish, risky move that I find inexcusable given her long time experience in the region.
Sorry, but you are totally wrong.
LL liked to spread it around a lot, and she had no objections to “laying down on the job,” but this story is straight up.
I spoke with both her field producer (who was there and came back with her) and some guys on the Desk who I’ve kinown for years.
>>>>I bet it was terrifying, she could have been sentenced to death in some Muslim countries for being raped.<<<<
One of the many reasons democracy will never work with Islamists. This is the kind of demonic thinking they will vote into law. I hate what had happened to this woman and thankful to God she got out of Egypt. Now if we could just put and end to life - threatening PC bullcrap maybe the truth would be reported to the masses and we could avoid this type of brutality in the future.
I feel sorry for her, but get real here. She went to a Muslim country, placed herself in the middle of a Muslim mob, and didn't conform to local mores. What did everybody expect?
What will CBS do next, send a rabbit to interview a pack of wolves?
Read the body copy, it’s there.
I don't know. I bet she says, "It's our fault. We don't understand them. We need to give them more."
CBS, ever pursuing the Holy Grail of ratings, sent a sex bomb pretending to be a journalist in the midst of the 7th century savages.
Have journalists started extending this courtesy to other people?
“She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women...”
Precisely why we aren't going to let them.
Bears repeating.
Good point. You can't choose your genetics, but you can choose your culture, and many cultures suck.
And Political Correctness is welcoming the culture of Sharia and 'honor killings' etc. to our nation under the title of 'multiculturalism'.
This isn't something to take lightly. That gang of animals could care less about her political beliefs. They regarded her as an American woman who had it coming.
Everyone needs to remember this:
If given the chance they would go after your wife, mother, daughter or sister and do the same or worse to them. God forbid.
Of course they were lying about being afraid of Tea Partiers, but they had to be idiots to put themselves inside a Muslim mob.
I think she should sue CBS for sending her there, she should OWN CBS after this.
Freaking Islamic ANIMALS. THey arent worthy of being slapped with shoes, they aren’t WORTHY of even touching a pig.
Islam is a SICK and EVIL religion, and it is utterly horrifying that this lady was put into such a situation. Utterly reprehensible that she did not have some sort of security!!!
Man, sick sick sick. I hope the bastards rot in hell forever.
You ask if she will become a conservative? I doubt it.
How to say this politely? Ms. Logan carried on numerous affairs, some with married men, while posted in Baghdad. She herself was married at the time as well. She has since divorced, and re-married one of her flings from Iraq days. Certainly, this brutal attack in Cairo was not connected to her behavior in Iraq
Anyway, liberals, particularly reporters, buy-in to the whole belief system. And a total re-examination of one's life is needed to truly change - I doubt it will come from one experience with the reality of on-the-street Islam.
as such, I predict the liberal narrative will be to blame "Mubarak thugs," or perhaps even George Bush.
lol, T baggers
and here now in America
