You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine.
Agreed.
If Speaker Boehner were in here on a thread defending his position he'd be entitled to not be personally attacked.
However, he's not here as a Freeper, but he has a public reputation ~ so it's OK to attack him. Otherwise what, exactly, would we have to do if we didn't attack public figures who we think are going wrong.
We attack DU ~ and HuffPo for using too much dope, getting drunk on the job, and driving good men into the arms of homosexuals! At the same time if Arianna came in here to discuss something we'd be polite and ask her out for quickies maybe, but there'd be nothing like the way we usually dispose of her.
Unless you are a medical doctor you are not entitled to call someone an alcoholic. And then only on examination, and then under an oath of confidentiality. It is not a matter of opinion.
To do so under any other circumstance is not only NOT just an opinion, it is slander (or libel, on a website) and you can get sued by the person you called an alcoholic in public.
Yes, there are real reasons for the rules as they are and you have real responsibilities whether you accept them or not.
If that’s the game you want to play, if you want to attack anybody, even people on our side, on a deeply personal level, even to the point of libel and slander, then see how long you last on this forum. There is a line to be crossed. You may last a long time or not. It depends on the judgment of the mods.
But accusing a conservative, even an alleged RINO of being an alcoholic is slanderous and over the line IMO. You can attack (and I do to) on other levels without resorting to that.
Resorting to that level against your own side makes your own agenda questionable.
See post #241.
It seems important to you that I know I have a right to my opinion...
But currently we have a couple of people who think the tendency to cry easily is symptomatic of alcoholism.
Did you know there are libraries of books on the relationships ~ some studies say it's an iron clad lock, and other studies say there's no relationship whatsoever.
Not my game BTW. I don't care if you're a drunk or just have a brain tumor ~ if you're a Democrat I'd say you have more problems than any human should bear.
Back to "attacks" when Sotomayor, a woman who'd been mainlining insulin for 45 years was nominated to the Supreme court a number of us were criticized by IGNANT people in the MSM for suggesting there was anything wrong with that.
Well, we were all diabetics, and we all knew about some of the side effects of long term insulin use, and one of them is akin to Brittle Bone Syndrome. 45 years of use and you might start breaking up.
So, the Leftwingtards in the MSM were beating up on us and carrying on and running in circles and then Sotomayor was out at the airport trying to catch a plane and BROKE A FOOT. No she didn't hit anything ~ just broke a foot walking along like normal.
That's a symptom.
The critics shut up like we'd stuffed socks in their mouths.
The answer to your question is that it's not a personal attack for people to bring up your health problems that may well affect your ability to get to work and do your job. Congressmen with likker problems are fair game, as are Supreme Court Justices who have a tendency to break bones in mid stride.
They can step down and then their problems are no longer our problems.
You might well think of it as a confidential medical condition but it's not. Whole big bunches of them have already "come out" and let the world know about it!
"He is an alcoholic, who cries." was the original, uncluttered accusation. Lacking any other context it struck me as over the line. YMMV.
Not everyone is happy with the current Speaker ~ after all many imagine that Jesus could be enticed to be honored with the job.
I disagree!
I listen to Mark’s show each and every day when I can and I did hear him. Do you or does anyone know which of the Pubbies on the Rules Committee voted against his amendment. They each need to be primaried out in ‘12.
Wow! You are an oldtimer!
Jim Robinson signed up on November 28, 1997.
Which makes you prehistoric! ;^)
The real old timers REMEMBER when they first found themselves watching the scrolling comments waiting for something to hop on.
I hadn't noticed JR's sign on date ~ I always assumed the guy who runs the system can go into the record and put any date he wants in there ~ like AD 3 or something.
I sure would.
I learned about FreeRepublic while listening to Rush Limbaugh during the whole Lewinsky scandal. Lurked for a long time, because I was a little intimidated when reading some of the debates here.
The level of debate since 2000 has dropped a good bit, but the amount of information posted here is extremely high quality.
Better than any of the networks, newspapers or other news outlets.
It's everything conservative, all rolled up in a sweet little web site! Everything I need to win debates against liberals!
Internet research has gotten better so many debates are ended in the first few posts. Give you an example ~ it's popular to start a debate by saying Congress doesn't pay Social Security ~ but a quick reference to the FERS (federal employees retirement system) puts the sword to that one. I don't think we've had any debates over Congress needing to start paying Social Security for several years now.
Used to be those things would go on for MONTHS.
Amazing how the media NEVER comments on the disgusting way the Democrats passed it or how it was done right at Christmas while most Americans were away from news sources.
I doubt any message will help the Republicans since the media is in a full war-footing against them. They just need to do what they promised, keep their heads down and pray the people appreciate and understand their efforts. Its really scary. Darryl Issa is about to get the Bork/Newt/Thomas/Starr treatment. God help him.
You got that right, but left out DeLay. Prayers up for the protection of Darryl Issa ... bigtime.
