SWANZEY, N.H. -- A 7-year-old Siberian husky was shot in the leg Thursday night while his owner was working inside his garage.

"I heard a loud bang and then I heard Dozer whining. I said to my son, 'Somebody's shooting at Dozer,'" said Philip Sherrick, Sr.

Sherrick went outside and saw the armed man standing in his driveway who said, "It's just pellets," and walked away, Sherrick said.

Sherrick called police and drove Dozer to the vet hospital, where he had emergency surgery to amputate his right rear leg at the hip.

Police recovered the shell casings from the rifle and are now trying to determine to whom the gun belongs.

Sherrick said he believes he knows who shot his dog, but he doesn't know why.

Dozer is well-known among the neighbors on Marcy Hill Road who said sometimes Dozer wanders when he gets off his tie out. The staff at the Citgo station in town were horrified when they heard that Dozer was shot and sent him a get well card.

“Going into someone elses yard to shoot their dog is criminal. “

Yes, it is. It’s called “Trespassing”, and it’s illegal.

"- Go ahead and shoot it then....."
"No, it wouldn't be sporting, shooting it inside a crate."

You’re moronic to talk about property rights after saying you’d go onto someone elses property to shoot their dog.

Do that in my house and you’d end up with some lead in your chest. Then I’d feed you to the feral hogs that live across the street.

Sounds like your Dad was a good cop. Today’s cops are trained to shoot dogs if they “feel” threatened.

I like the way you think.

No one hurts my boys and gets away with it. No One.

The guy evidently was armed while trespassing which should make it armed trespass. Generally a felony.

A good friend of mine had a very valuable Lab gut shot by a worthless neighbor. The neighbor woke up to a de-fanged rattlesnake in his bed and had a (non-fatal) heart attack. The snake disappeared and no more dogs were shot in that yard.

Its like I’ve always said...

If you cannot take care of your property, pets included, keeping them safe and secure from things outside your property line, then don’t take on the responsibility...

If a dog gets off a “line”, to which I think is a cruel existance to begin with, then a secure, fenced in yard that is kept up that way is absolutely necessary...

I’m all for pets (dogs) to be able to socialize with others with zero problems and issues like that, but you have to be able to contain that for most of the time and never allow it to happen without you being there to supervise...

It really is not that hard of a concept...

Now, I’ll get off the owners case and get on the asshat who thought it would solve the problem by shooting the dog in the first place...

It’s like anything else, the laws of most states allow you to defend yourself and your property when you reasonably determine that deadly force is immediately necessary to “stop” the threat...

No matter what it is “they” are (in this case) shooting at...

Bottom line, in my opinion it’s not the dogs fault...

So where would a person get a de-fanged rattlesnake. I know lots of places to get the fanged ones.

Actually, what you wrote were a pair of sentence fragments with misspellings, leaving people to wonder what the heck you were talking about. But you know, if you’re going to write something stupid, don’t backpedal away from it. You looked at the causes, and commented on the dog poop, not the disgusting, depraved sick-o who would take out his frustration by shooting an innocent dog. That says a lot.

I’m guessing Rambo doesn’t backpedal when leaving anonymous comments on a bulletin board.

Not my chosen way of dealing with it, but if you can find a fanged rattlesnake and a pair of pliers....

“Pellet casings? I never had them! “

Cabela’s had a new type of pellet gun that used .177 pellets but did not use compressed air to shoot. It used primers to shoot the pellets.

Never seen one up close but would be interested in just how powerful they are.

Actually, in a lot of states, the guy who shot the dog could easily have gotten himself legally shot.

I just can’t find someone willing to apply the pliers to the snake.

Those snakes get kinda pissy about the whole arrangement ya know.
