Donald Trump attempted a dramatic boardroom takeover at this weekends high profile conclave of conservative activists, pulling the chair out from under Mitt Romney and setting the tone before a packed house at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
I want to stop our nation from being the whipping post for the rest of the world, Trump said at the unofficial kickoff of the 2012 Republican presidential sweepstakes.
For Romney, it was if the New York real estate mogul was sending him a message made famous by his hit TV show, The Apprentice Youre fired!
And many in the crowd of 11,000 appeared to respond to Trumps message, yelling, Youre hired!
Trump took on everybody, including the Chinese for manipulating their currency as he appeared to hit all the right notes at the annual gathering.
This country will be respected again, Trump said, warning if the economic slide is allowed to continue Americans will soon be paying $7, $8 and $9 for a gallon of gas.
The biggest indication that the Gotham tycoon is seriously mulling a White House bid was when he declared that he was pro-life and pro-Second Amendment.
Romney, the former Bay State governor and venture capitalist, kept it cool, delivering a very well-crafted speech with one glaring omission: The creator of Romneycare failed to join the chorus calling for the repeal of Obamacare.
Romney scored 23 percent in the CPAC straw poll, second only to Texas Congressman and Tea Party darling Ron Paul, who got 30 percent.
Trump, a surprise speaker at CPAC, wasnt on the ballot but he didnt hesitate to knock Paul, a long-shot presidential candidate by any measure.
I like Ron Paul, I think he is a good guy, but honestly he just has zero chance of getting elected, Trump said.

The battle of the egomaniacs.
I’d sooner trust Don King.
I would still take Trump any day over RINO Romney.
Don King is an avowed lover of the U.S.A. At least.
And ya gots to love his hairdo.
I wouldn’t vote for Donald Trump but I’d sure like to see him take out Romney. Rmoney is another McCain, chosen by the media.
Not me. Trump is proabortion and proamnesty and a bunch of other crap isn’t he?
What’s with the name Don and weird hair dos? Don King, Don Trump. See what I mean?
At least Trump seems aware that he comes off as fake. Romney...not so much.
I do like that.
Trump believes marriage is between a man and a woman, and a woman, and a woman, and a woman....
LOL
Trump is even worse than Romney(both big business-big government corporatists), he was for Obama and the stimulus and only jumped ship when it failed.
He’s all upset about OPEC raising oil prices, but loves Obama/Bernake running down the dollar. I would not vote for either if it was Trump vs Obama.
Trump needs to run as a Democrat.
We do not need big business corporatists in the WH. How about someone who ran a SMALL business (<100 employees), then became a successful governor?
If the r/d choices for president in 2012 are Trump/Obama, I may actually consider ‘sitting one out’ for the first time since I turned 18.
Of course, I can always write in my own name I suppose...
Id take Trump over Romney or huckster anyday.
False.
He endorsed McCain and supported Sarah.
Donald Trump makes the Republican Party even more of a joke than it already is. And that aint easy.
“..Tea Party darling Ron Paul..”
Is this so?
yes it so...
The Tea Party put Rand in too...
