Iran Live Blog: 25 Bahman / 14 February

What will happen Monday, history will record in less than 24 hours. The atmosphere is filled by suspense over the call for demonstration. Certainly the city is not calm. There were chants of "Allah-o akbar" across Tehran. People expect something to happen. Publicly, Mr. Karroubi and Mr. Mousavi have called for a demonstration in solidarity with the people of Egypt. Nobody thinks or believes this is about Egypt or will remain focused on Egypt. No wonder that their request has been rejected as illegal. Their advisers have announced that according to Article 27 of Iran's Constitution there is no need for a permit. It must be noted that both leaders are under house arrest now. Most likely they will be prevented from attending the demonstration. [While Karroubi has been under house arrest for four days, there is no independent confirmation that Mousavi has been similarly confined. As we noted two-and-a-half hours ago, a senior adviser to the former presidential candidate says that his mobile phone has been disconnected and it has not been possible to reach him. --Ed.]

That very well could make this a whole new ball game (so-to-speak). Trying and sentencing Mousavi & Karroubi...will the Iranian people be demoralized or even further enraged?

Protests in the Middle East - live updates

1.31pm – Iran:

A second person was killed in yesterday's demonstration in Iran, a member of the Iranian parliament said today.

"At Monday's rally ... two people were martyred and many were wounded; one person was shot dead," Kazem Jalali was quoted as saying by Iranian news agency ISNA.

An opposition website claimed at least 1,500 people were arrested while taking part in the banned protests.

More video is emerging of the protests. This one shows a crowd chanting for the release of political prisoners as they march down a street. The film ends abruptly when protesters begin to flee in the opposite direction.

Are you seeing reports of live rounds being fired at the protesters? I just saw this and I could not believe my eyes. Did my eyes lie? Any reports to confirm?

They need to find their own way of self-governance. That it will happen any day soon is certainly complicated by the well-organized Islamic (i.e. evil) influence.

I am not convinced the people, as a whole, understand what self-governance is. Many are like woman who've been battered and abused. We have learned many Muslims suffer from PTS because of their culture and all which it permits. As I see it they are behind a rock and a hard place now.

No doubt a rough road for them to live with and accept what I think we'll see playout in this. Can they wait six months? Well the demonstrations by various groups, even before the Military has been given an opportunity to work, evidences they likely will have problems waiting for six months.
