NEW YORK – NEW YORK (AP) — A man accused of going on a 28-hour stabbing rampage through New York City says he was the victim of a "setup." He shouted that as he was led from a police station.

Maksim Gelman was arraigned Sunday in Brooklyn on charges he hacked three people to death and killed a pedestrian with a car.

Police say he stalked the city, attacked innocent strangers and hijacked vehicles.

A small throng of Brooklyn residents taunted Gelman as he was escorted out of a police precinct wearing a white jumpsuit.

The 23-year-old cursed and yelled back it "was a setup" as he was led to a vehicle.

The Ukraine-born Gelman and his mother became naturalized U.S. citizens about five years ago.

It’s going to be interesting hearing the details about this maniac’s belief system.

He’d be better off saying that pink elephants made him do it.

Nutzo Ukrainian.

I think he’s basically just a product of the (former) USSR, and judging from his name and his girlfriend’s name, he’s ethnically Russian.

I don’t think there’s anything political about this. But Slavs from the former USSR do seem to be prone to mental health problems, even if they have grown up here. The horrendously evil person who killed the mother and daughter (and tried to kill the father) in that family in Connecticutt was an adoptee from Russia.

There was also a russian that went on a stabbing spree in CA a few years ago. Bizarre to say the least. No I wasn’t thinking political although when I hear knives being thrown in the mix I admit I think of the ROP. Many euros/caucasians seem to be joining up and I’m mildly curious about that.

Did you ever see that movie ‘15 Minutes’ with Robert DeNiro?

It was a bit over the top but it definitely made the point of how american justice has been perverted. Pretty good flick.

Congress should immediately pass a bill to ban all knives in this country longer than 10 inches.

Normally, I’d think ROP too. But when I see Slavic names ...

Back in the old days, the USSR did the Russian equivalent of the Mariel boatlift. In other words, the country opened its jails and mental hospitals and sent the inmates here.

But I don’t think even the Russians knowiungly do that any more, so maybe this was just a horrible fluke.

I read somewhere that he was from the Russian Mafia as are so many of the problem immigrants from Russia. I heard they were far more violent and corrupt than the Cosa Nostra.

I think there is a sinister story to be told so we probably will not hear too much more

He's been here 5 years if I read the article correctly. Although rare, Caucasians do join the ROP maniacs ...

I didn't realize that Russia sent inmates/mental patients here. What administration was that under?
