Joshua J. Goldberg (1967-2011*) quietly played nurseryman to scores of talented writers and citizen reporters. He gave us a rich soil to plant our blogs, then watered and weeded BlogsLucianneLoves.com (BLL) until our sites sprouted roots and branches, and blossomed with fruit. Josh was a Johnny Appleseed for conservative American blogs. His tragic death was reported today.
John Chapman, a.k.a. Johnny Appleseed, did not, as many people believe, plant apple trees by tossing seeds hither and yon. He actually started nurseries where sapling apple trees were nurtured until they could be sold to people who wanted to grow their own orchards. In other words, he did not merely plant apple trees; he planted apple growers.
And like Chapman, Joshua Goldberg did not create blogs; he helped others establish their own little hothouses, and invited the best of them to aggregate into his large network of regular readers, who range from average Mom and Pop America to the media elite of New York and Washington. By giving us a home and his confidence, Goldberg spurred many of us bloggers (or Lbloggers) to write our best material, publish more frequently, and delve more aggressively into issues and new stories using standard reporting techniques. He helped us build our own large readerships by letting us cross-post our work to his family's sites, where he was Managing Editor, and link to our own at no charge.

Where did you hear that "it was an accident"?
Sincere condolences to Lucieanne, Jonah, Chantal, and to all those who knew and loved Joshua.
May he rest in peace.
It was included in the death announcement from the Goldberg family.
Thanks for that, Bunny. I’ve already updated my article based on that link.
I see that Jonah’s statement calls it an “accident”. It seems very strange that the details are being withheld.
Thanks for the link to Jonah’s article - I hadn’t seen that before.
Very sad time for the Goldberg family. Let’s keep them in our prayers.
Regardless, the family needs our prayers.
How sad, it’s always hard to lose a loved one like that. I’m glad Jonah had enough time at least, to make it home to see his brother before he died. God bless that family.
I thought it a bit odd, too, for a while, but do realize that they also said it was from a fall. And Jonah gave a few more details in his column at NRO today — it happened a few days ago, he has been in the hospital the whole time, and he did not suffer.
I’m giving them a few days to get over the suddenness of this event (they might never, though) and will keep my eyes open for other details, posting them at my original article at LoudCitizen.org.
Way to young.
So true; 43 and he accomplished so much, but could have done so much more.
RIP
RIP, and prayers...
Silly,
You sound as though you knew him.
The article is super vague. It said he started nurseries. Is that an analogy or is true? What did Joshua do for a living?
I’m curious.
It’s an analogy. Read the first three paragraphs.
He was Managing Editor of BLL, and invited me onboard as an official blogger there.
I did not go to the blog.
I’ll try to find out what BLL is.
Going to the blog will answer all your questions.
I can only make an observation that it is unusual for a 44 year old man not to have a job. A family man at that.
BTW, it appears that Jonah was in Israel with him.
What makes you say he didn’t have a job...? Managing Editor / Editor-in-Chief of Lucianne.com Media LLC. That’s a job.
And no, if you read Jonah’s comments, it was Jonah who was in Israel, and when he heard the news of the accident, came rushing home to see his brother during his last hours. So Joshua was therefore not in Israel.
Are you a stroke victim, or just tired?
I did go although I am one of those Freepers who is against blog pimping. There was no reason that the whole article could not have been posted.
It did answer my biggest question which was if he had a job. It would appear not.
RIP
