The results of the CPAC straw poll of presidential candidates are in, and the winner is Ron Paul, with 30% of the vote. Mitt Romney was the runner-up with 23%, and all other candidates tied with about 6% each.

84% of the voters identified themselves as fiscal conservatives, placing their highest priority on economic growth and restraining the growth of government.

“We still don’t have all of the answers to 9/11.”

Al Qeada and Bin Laden have admitted knocking down the towers.

“Our politicians have lied to us over and over.”

Are you suggesting our government was involved in 9-11?

“Heard of Building 7? And before you jump to a emotionally charged, media controlled response...be a free independent american and look it up for yourself. You might be surprised.”

Why don’t you give us a summary and then maybe we’ll be convinced to research further.

Isn’t it sickening to see people who think they are conservatives mock our military and our industry.

Yes, it is sickening. Shame on them.

"Then the addled hippy pot smokers and Marxists moved in."

I knew that happened, but was not clear on the timeframe. Didn't some of that infiltration into the libertarian movement happen in the post Vietnam era?

“When Ronald Reagan heard one of our military jets overhead...he called it, “...the sound of Freedom...”

Excellent, my friend. That’s a great quote.

When the Marines heard the Corsairs at Iwo Jima, the Sabre jets at Chosin reservoir in Korea and the F-4 Phantoms in Vietnam, we literally had a reason to celebrate, thanks to the pilots.

That Mr. Reagan remembered the “sound of freedom” is another reason to honor the man.

Instead of being spoon fed like the masses...you should look it up for yourself. But if you insist....here is a tip of the iceberg.

Last question....because I must now go to work.

Do you trust the government?

“ass banned”

1st Amendment doesn’t count here? I thought was a free and open forum to express our views from all conservatives? Is the “fairness doctrine” coming to FR?

Why are you using such pretzel logic defending choosing homosexuality as a lifestyle choice?

Where did I say that? Or are you just out of arguments and making stuff up?

Those results IMHO show CPAC to be hardly conservative... in fact a very poor conservative showing.

He said in the 2008 debate that we were attacked on 9/11 b/c we "interfered" in Arab affairs.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The truth is that their interpretation of the Qur'an and pursuit of 'jihad' tells them to do things like 9/11.

Ron Paul's comments pointed to either willful ignorance or outright dishonesty.

You pick.

Yeah, I cant wait to vote for Ron Paul too. I also hate America and the Joos.

Not one of the current GOP contenders are as anti-American as is Ron Paul.

Seriously, why do you write that you like Ron Paul AND seek the most Conservative candidate? The gig has been up a long time, no need to continue the “Ron Paul is Conservative” ruse. Ron Paul is a LIBertarian, I.e., an Anarchist with a smile.

Because he’s a fiscal conservative, something that the rest of the “conservatives” don’t really believe in.

Ron Paul’s select is simply a diversion to keep the media occupied...and it’s working. But we note the media doesn’t get very excited about this. They simply report it. Should give people an eye opener that he has no chance...again...of winning. He’s simply playing out his role.

Has Huck and Mitt blamed America for Islamic radicalism?

On that issue alone makes either one significantly a better more patriotic choice than to support a traitor.

Pacman, I solved the "mystery" of 911

Space Aliens

Bear with me, just trying to help Truthers out. Since Truthers look like the lunatics that they are by trying to say silly things like "steel can't melt", or the Mossad planted explosives, blame it on Space Aliens. One can say the space aliens have space alien technology that can't yet be explained. Try it, much more plausible than claiming that Karl Rove flew a remote 747 into the pentagon right?

I call bullshit on that.

Why does Ron Paul seek out and accept PORK?

Now that we have established that Ron Paul is NOT a fiscal Conservative, what other “qualities” or positions of Ron Paul that you like?

Pot Legalization?

Now....who is that candidate I don’t know....but the RNC/GOP etc should be developing someone NOW! I want America back!

The RNC is not the place to develop a candidate. Candidates grow from the ranks of local mayors or city council members who run for higher office and eventually reach a governor's chair. Obviously, some can make the jump to governorship without having held a lower office, but the development starts in those places. The RNC is less effective at development than ordinary citizens who research and support good local candidates.

We don't have any perfect candidates for next year. Anyone we nominate will be flawed in some ways. The RNC can't reach into some magic bag of candidates and draw out someone who will be significantly better than the people being considered now. We'll have to choose from a list that is largely decided right now.

The best way to work through that list is to let the voters decide through a thorough primary process. We need to avoid winnowing any candidate until at least ten states have voted. We need to see them in action in different parts of the country talking to different voters. We need to see them in big media markets and small media markets. Voters in those first ten states should vote simply for the candidate who seems best to them. The next twenty or thirty states should decide among the top four or five from the first ten states. If a clear winner isn't decided by then, the last ten states will decide that winner.

The other secret to the process is not to destroy one another through "friendly fire." Every time someone resorts to ugliness to tear down one candidate, he just makes that candidate's supporters less likely to lift a finger for his candidate if his candidate wins the nomination. The candidates can and should disagree. They should debate the issues in depth, but they should not attack one another. Generally, the candidates do a good job in this area. If the internet blowhards would learn to temper their remarks a bit, a vigorous primary would be good for the party.

Bill
