Ever since the TSA started putting back-scatter devices into use at selected airports last fall, I've been waiting to have the chance to opt out and register a one-woman protest against the machines.
So I was awfully pleased when I arrived at a security checkpoint in Miami International Airport this morning and discovered that my line fed into a back-scatter device, even though metal detectors were in use for the other lines. When it was my turn, I politely said that I would like to opt out. "Seriously?" the first TSA worker asked me with a raised eyebrow. Yes, seriously.
He directed me through the nearby metal detector (the one that would have been good enough if I'd just chosen another line) and motioned for me to wait for a pat-down agent: "Female opt-out!" A female agent led me to a table where she set my bags and then skeptically asked if I knew what the pat down involved. Yes, indeedy (thanks, Jeff Goldberg!) "Do you want to do this somewhere private?" No, thank you. The agent calmly explained what she was going to do before she performed each part of the procedure, and very briskly but thoroughly went through the pat-down. The whole thing was over in a matter of minutes and was a completely professional experience.
Or it was, until a male TSA agent walked behind us and hollered: "Hey, I thought she was mine! I was gonna do her!"
And that, buddy, is exactly why I'm opting out instead of standing in the see-through picture machine. Thanks for validating my choice.

No need, they were all thinking the same thing.
We need to see Amy Sullivan photos, to be able to judge this encounter!
It's types like you who are TSA agents.
Let me get this straight. Did she think there was a victory in her decision to opt out and get groped instead? Makes no difference about the comment, the fact that she felt it was ‘all very professional’ (and I’m assuming here that she got the full treatment of groping/feeling her breasts, crotch area etc.) really goes to the mindset of the zombies in the population.
What good does it do for us to object and fight when there are so many dim bulbs in the country?
at some point far too far down the road, true studies about the backscatter and MMW machines will become available, and it is very possible they are going to leave a lot of folks aghast at how their government has lied to them.
Worth noting that apparently no actual x-ray backscatter machine has EVER been tested with public results.
this article is well-worth reading. it is a well-documented rebuttal of all the tsa claims of machine inspection/testing/safety.

The only reason I'd fly anywhere anymore would be if it were a family medical emergency or a business trip where I simply could not arrange it into my schedule. Given that I don't travel much anyway, less now... I'd be willing to take a day of vacation each way to drive rather than fly. Given that we allow a day each way for travel anyway... That gives me a two day each way time budget for driving. From where I'm at, I can get just about anywhere I'd need to be for work in 2 days.
So long TSA, airlines, airports, long waits... Hello open road, XM satellite radio, and being able to take along some tools for survival... Master of my own destiny once more.
reminder....opt out....prior to opt out place 1 Kailbasa sausage in deep front pocket, covered with a sock.
This TSA male goon needed to be fired on the spot! Just imagine, after they become unionized, this will next to impossible!

I agree ladyjane, vehemently! Comments like this do not belong here on FR.
pass.
Damn, I am going to be in such trouble if they get me in the wrong line. I'm not having my eyes X-rayed - along with everything else and, at my great granny age, if someone gropes me, I'll end up slammed on the floor and handcuffed for my response. (They've made it against the law to even voice a complaint to a poor TSA officer as it's ‘upsetting’ to them.
Of course, getting sexually molested isn't upsetting.
What the whole exercise is about is a trial balloon to see how far we will submit to anything - and to get used to so submitting, without a murmur.
And people wonder why the Jews ‘just got on the cattle cars’. I don't think even they were routinely sexually molested in the beginning.
If’n you’re in Maine, it’s not that far to Halifax. Fly outta there, and avoid the goons.
....and I'm joining the TSA.
EXACTLY!!
ROFL! That’s funny Laz!
“Or it was, until a male TSA agent walked behind us and hollered: “Hey, I thought she was mine! I was gonna do her!”
So did she report this immature dolt?
So, she probably wanted to be "searched" by the female TSA agent anyway... Which means your chances of "hitting it" are pretty slim.
Sounds like she was just a bit toooooo anxious for a female patdown. Exhibitionist too if you ask me.
And just what is the point of her article?
