It’s not Iran, yes there are echoes and parallels. Egypt is poorer, and they NEED relationships with the secular world and Israel for income. I’m making a leap, but I assume some of the Army knows that and knows they HAVE TO STOP the religious zealots. It may be that Facebook and Google just make the night jobs of black-robed and masked death squads easier.
And if that doesn’t happen ...
The most likely outcome is a bloody mano-a-mano civil war in the dark, jmo.
And to calm that chaos the Army might declare war on some neighboring state, thus to marshal patriotic impulse.
Dictatorships always start out with mob rule (code name: democracy). They always appeal to the will of the people so long as the people support them.
