Its a situation facing many people: even though you have experience, youre still struggling to get a job, let alone a single interview.
Even though the economy is improving and there are increased job openings, gone are the days when simply submitting your cover letter and resume will result in HR knocking on your door for an interview.
Job seekers need to be a lot more proactive and strategic with who and how they network to ensure they stay top-of-mind to not only hiring managers, but also to people within their own personal networks who can lend a job-filled hand.
Below are five reasons why youre probably not getting noticed along with suggestions on how to not only improve your chances, but also connect you to the job you actually want.

Your not Female, Hot and a Protected “Minority”.
I can’t believe the amount of people that burn bridges.
50 is the new 60
RE: You are over 60 years old
You don’t have to be 60. Even a few years younger will make a hiring manager think twice. AGEISM is RAMPANT.
The average company mentality is this -— when you’re in your 50’s, your expendable (I’d love for anyone to show me a few companies that don’t think this way).
And the government has the gall to make you work till you’re 66 today for you to get your Social Security !! ( Shaking my head is sorrow ).
Racism against middle aged whitemen has become institutionalized.
Your underarm deodorant has failed you.
Actually that has been true for some time now.
RE: Your not Female, Hot and a Protected Minority.
Which begs the question: Why does the government not make the aging boomers who still want to work ( and must work because they can’t get Social Security till 66 ) a PROTECTED MINORITY?
“Racism against middle aged whitemen has become institutionalized.”
Does that make us the new N****r?
For at least the past 10 years.
You are not getting hired because the Globalists have shipped your job to China or India. In addition no one in the USA can afford to comply with all the government red tape needed to hire you. Congratulations you are now an official NWO slave.
Yes, but without the recourse.
You can’t rely on personal contacts to get your foot in the door anymore. Thanks to the Federal Government (and in particular something called OFCCP) nobody will accept a faxed or hand-delivered resume anymore. They all want to force you through a web portal where you are forced to self-select all of your race, gender and group identity info so the employer can cover their rear by proving to the Government that they are interviewing and hiring enough people from each of the protected groups.
Having Joe from your old company hand your resume to the HR Manager and put in a good word for you is RACISM, dontcha know...
I actually had some one say to me recently “If we go to HR, you will lose, because you are a white boy”
Companies will try to avoid hiring older workers.
While older workers may be more experienced, two things work against them. First, is that companies can generally get away with paying younger workers less money. Secondly, older workers in group insurance plans will cost the company much more in insurance premiums. So pay and benefits for older workers will cost the company money.
Another factor depends on the job. But for all but senior management type positions, the fact that someone has 20 or 30 years of experience in some field does not impress employers. If they can hire a 35 year old with a degree in a certain field and five years of experience, that’s just as good to them as a 50 year old with 25 years experience. And the younger worker will cost them less money, so the bias is towards hiring younger workers.
I consider that a hostile work environment.
I’m sorry, Mr. SeekAndFind, this position has been closed and shipped to China. Thank you for your interest in Profits Uber Alles, Inc.
