Lawmaker Files Birth Certificate Bill (Tenn)
WSMV-TV ^ | Feb. 9, 2010 | Cara Kumari

Posted on 02/10/2011 4:14:35 AM PST by Smokeyblue

A state lawmaker has filed a bill to require presidential candidates to show an original birth certificate before getting on the ballot in Tennessee.

Several other states have filed similar legislation. It stems from the so-called "birthers," who have questioned the legitimacy of President Barack Obama's candidacy. They believe he may have been born outside the United States and have filed lawsuits demanding to see his original birth certificate. A judge has dismissed the lawsuits.

State Sen. Mae Beavers, R-Mount Juliet, said she was asked to file the legislation by the Wilson County Tea Party. She said she wouldn't comment about whether or not she believes Obama was born outside the United States because she has no personal knowledge about whether or not he can prove his citizenship. She said this would erase all concerns in future elections.

"We just want to make doubly sure in Tennessee if we put someone on the ballot, they are qualified to run," said Beavers.

“A state lawmaker has filed a bill to require presidential candidates to show an original birth certificate before getting on the ballot in Tennessee. “

This initiative should be pushed in every state in the Union.

If anything... this makes the Dummies sweat. They know deep down he has nothing. Hence Alinsky Rule #5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.

I assumed that States or at least someone did require that a Candidate prove they were qualified to run.

Obama and the Democrats behind him made an ass out of U and me.

This law should be in every state.

Certainly the USSC can have no objections as to the Constitutionality of it.

Yep, and you can see Obama's flunkies applying that rule in the WH press conference the other day when one reporter dared ask about what Obama was going to do about this problem.

Sniggering and smirking and sneering and giggling. Contemptible lot of traitors to the trade of journalism. I despise them so much.

See here for article and video.

Even a snarky comment from NYT editor Bill Keller. (if it's genuine)

I believe he, or any candidate, will have to file in any state that he wishes to be on the ballot in. Remember the president is elected by the states, as are all federal government office holders. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FEDERAL ELECTION.

This is a waste of time and money.
Rahm is running for Mayor of Chicago. He had to prove his residency.
When you apply to run for any office you have to prove you are qualified for that office.
Why is the presidency any different?
When you apply to run you should have to prove all the requirements for the job, like age, place of birth, the birth certificate not only proves place of birth but also the date of birth.

"I assumed that States or at least someone did require that a Candidate prove they were qualified to run."

Congress is REQUIRED to verify the qualifications of the President elect according to the Twentieth amendment, section three. This would include the eligibility qualifications. In fact, the burden of qualifiying is on the President elect. If he cannot provide evidence of eligibility, he cannot be President. Period. Article two's eligibility requirement points out that "No Person" can serve as President who isn't a natural born citizen and thirty-five years old. "No Person" does not leave wiggle room.

We the people have a right to know what was provided to them as proof of eligibility. Also, anyone who takes the oath of office in Article six has the standing to go before a judge to see that section three of the Twentieth amendment was complied with or they are breaking their oath to "support this Constitution". This would include state representatives such as State Sen. Mae Beavers. Proposing this bill is nice but she should really go to the nearest courtroom and demand to see evidence instead.

First, states start implementing eligibility checks. Then, it’s voter ID. Next thing you know, the dead won’t even be allowed to vote. What’s this world coming to!?

It stems from the so-called "birthers," who have questioned the legitimacy of President Barack Obama's candidacy.

It stems for the so-called Constitution.

We can expect the Obama squad to challenge any state legislation to try to slow down implementation until after the 2012 election. When that happens it will be an admission that he’s got nothing.

At this point the only politician of note fighting fire with fire is Sarah Palin. She mocks and minimizes Obie at every opportunity and has stated something to the effect that he isn't the only one who has read “Rules for Radicals”. At some point she will push him over the edge. She has identified his weakness and is going to pound on it at every opportunity.
