Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) took to the House floor Tuesday night to criticize what she called a "demeaning" Pepsi ad that aired during the Super Bowl.
In the ad for Pepsi Max, a black woman sitting on a park bench gets angry with her husband after an attractive, white female jogger sits down next to the couple and smiles and waves at the man.
After the man smiles back, his girlfriend or wife gets angry and whips her Pepsi Max can at him. The man ducks, and the can hits the attractive jogger in the head. The ad is titled "Love hurts."
Jackson Lee said it was ridiculous for the soft drink maker to air the advertisement during African-American history month.
"In this month of African-American history where we're trying to celebrate what is good and great, it certainly seems ridiculous that Pepsi would utilize this kind of humor," she said. "It was not humorous. It was demeaning an African-American woman throwing something at an African-American male and winding up hitting a Caucasian woman."

It’s just pure slapstick comedy. What’s the big deal? Pepsi is trying to sell their product to blacks...so they use blacks as protagonists. The white lady jogger just provides an emotional hook. I’m sure some advertising dude can explain it.
How many times did the Three Stooges accidentally clock some poor rube and leave him writhing in pain on the ground? Or Charlie Chaplin or a million other American comics?
Classic Americana - that’s my ruling.
Yes, all that and more.
Uh, yeah, that’s exactly what I’m saying I suppose.
But the fact that people ARE affected by color is what is wrong with this nation and our ability to laugh at stupid things. PC is the root cause and at the heart of what the left uses to divide us.
I wonder how many youtubes will start coming out now, white people bashed in the head with beverage cans
why didnt they use a black woman jogger?
It could be the start of a new on-line fad.
pepsi with a kick (in the head)
this ad really didn’t work for anyone
these ad kids are so stupid and so nauseatingly politically correct at times
urban
If the people complaining would say
“yeah, that’s what would probably happen, and it’s wrong, and several things revealed in that ad need to be addressed in our community”
instead of
“how DARE you show that!”
the culture responsible for such behavior could be changed.
It would be funny but most ads try to put a blonde with the black dude. They are just following the norm.
It matches perfectly - angry black woman who is controlling and a food-scold. That is Michelle Obama, isn’t it?
dip them in brownie batter, put them in muffin cups, bake 12 to 16 minutes, and say hello to wonderful.
This is certainly a big part of it. Another part is that the black woman so plainly gives the black man good reason to prefer the white woman.
Sheila Jackson Lee and Jesse Jackson need to hook up and have a four some with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jr. and crate their own hate whitey race on gilligan’s island.
I’m offended by all the commercials that have blacks and whites in them, and in all cases they make the white persons to look like the incompentent buffoons and the black people to look like the cool, intellegent ones.
Maybe by coming together, we could make a commercial for Colt 45 and have a bunch of drunk brothers and sisters chugging down some 40 oncers, here in Detroit in front of an Arab Party Store, in a burned out neighborhood? Then old Sheila Jackson Lee would probably go join the Colt 45 imbibers?
Was she offended by Usher being lowered on a chain during halftime show during “Black History Month”? She’s offended because it’s the shortest month of the year.
