His sharp right turn during the campaign has now been totally flushed down the toilet. What a POS!

So tell us again how granting the President line-item veto power via proper Constitutional channels is a bad thing. The next GOP president would have it as well, and it would go a long ways to being able to curtail nonsense if used well.

people really are stupid.
How could anyone have voted this idiot back in is beyond me.

It’s amazing how many actually think those elected tell the truth when trying to get elected, truly amazes me how stupoid people are.

We are going to live in regret for the likes of this stupid old progressive being given another term.

Shame on those that supported him.

Actually McCain’s reaction is perfectly inline with a Progressive. If Obama has line item veto then he can preserve all this progressive legislation. McCain and Obama are on the same page with that one.

Hey John, just go ahead and make your announcement already. We know you’re dying to cross over and become a RAT, so just get it over with. You and Arlen Sphincter are peas in a pod anyhow.

McCain posturing as rising above partisanship to win the plaudits of the elites who then can more easily deride Republicans who stand on principle. McCain is becoming an accessory to the destruction of America by this radical left administration. I suspect he wants Obama to win in 2012.

It looks like they are taking another approach, still not sure if this would pass SCOTUS muster, as it creates a de facto way for the President to introduce legislation, which is not an executive power, and that rationale is what led SCOTUS to shoot down the line-item veto during the Clinton years:

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/09/line-item-veto-alternative-offered/

The administration supports the Senate version, an official said. It would require a president to send Congress proposed rescissions within 45 calendar days after signing an appropriations measure – sooner than the 45 Congressional business days that Mr. Obama proposed as a deadline. Congress would have to consider the president’s rescissions proposal immediately and the House and Senate could not amend it.

About the only thing that could pass SCOTUS muster, IMO, would be a Constitutional Amendment.

If Obama has line item veto then he can preserve all this progressive legislation.

The main way the GOP can block Obama's agenda is by the House refusing to fund federal actions such as implementation of health care reform.

You can't line-item veto what isn't there.

Oh, sure, when Bush proposed it, he was practically laughed out of the building, but for Obama, it’s okay. I’m so ****ing sick of the hypocrisy!

Remember. This is likely McCain’s last term (he’ll be 80 in 2016).

So, with no worry about being re-elected, his mission over the next six years will be to undermine the conservative wing of the party and get back in the good graces of his base (the leftwing media).

Watch for TIME and Newsweek covers pumping up, “McCain’s Back.” Bank on it.

And why would the Reps go along with giving Obama more power? Obama could use the threat of line item vetos to push his agenda. Stupid given who occupies the WH.

And why would the Reps go along with giving Obama more power?

Maybe because that power could later belong to a GOP president? The GOP gave Clinton line-item veto power (that eventually got overturned by SCOTUS).

A line item veto on budget items should be a good thing to conservatives.
