I'm all for the presidential line-item veto, but doesn't that require a Constitutional amendment?

But he can line item any attempt to repeal...like they just tried.

Agreed on the house comment...that is a tool for the GOP to currently use but we don’t need to give Obama any more power.

McCain is proving what a retard he is. The line item veto was ruled unconstitutional over ten years ago.

First of all, IMO you are not going to get any changes to Obamacare that Obama himself doesn't want - if he doesn't have line-item veto power, he'll just veto the entire bill.

And second, from what I have read of the line-item veto proposal, it is limited to appropriations. And since spending originates in the House, the GOP already has good control over what is appropriated and what is not.

See post 13 - they are taking a different approach, but I think it would still face the same basic obstacle with SCOTUS.

IMO it will take a Constitutional Amendment to grant the president this power.

Obama could also be reelected. Doing it now is stupid given who is in the WH, i.e., the most radical Leftist ever to occupy the office of President. The last thing we want to give him is more power.

The real question...do you really want anymore power given to Obama?

I think any opportunity to get a line item veto in place is good, no matter who is in power. It is a very useful tool when it is present at the state level.

We'll just have to agree to disagree here.

“McCain wants to give Obama line-item veto power”

Why, Juan, so that the Kenyan Fraud can veto the part of the budget bill that defunds ObamaDeathCare?

The real question is, do you think the line item veto in and of itself is a good idea?

Who is in the White House should be secondary to that question.

Your so effing ignorant.

During the Reagan years, Republicans routinely called for the line item veto for Reagan because democraps would lard up bills or put items in bills that did not belong. They liked the idea so much the Republicans passed law giving Klinton line item veto power in the 90's.

However, the line item veto was struck down by the Supreme Court, due to the work of hard core leftists who liked larding up bills and sneaking in legislation under the umbrella of other names.

Right now I think the GOP should be 100% focused on making our current situation a dismal failure. We need to take the hit because this BS mode our country has been in for 20+ years just isn’t working out.

I think that's asinine. The situation is plenty bad enough without the GOP trying to deliberately let it get worse. Voters will judge the GOP harshly in 2012, IMO, if the GOP fails to try and improve matters.

It is asinine that you don’t understand just how bad things really are and where this ends up. We either derail what is happening now or we go to global war...seems you think that this is just another bump in the road of the wonderfully politically elite in this country.

History is clear on this and we are in the 1930’s again right now and you would be listening to Neville Chamberlain.

It is about time this country had a major dose of truth.

If the GOP doesn't take care of at least some of the issues that they campaigned on, guess what? The Dems are back in charge 2013. And if you think things are bad now, wait for that to go down.

I still think things can be turned around or at least mitigated. There was the same sense of gloom late in the Carter years, and it turned around after that.

So you don’t believe this ends in global conflict...ok I get your point. When you finally realize where this goes let’s check back and see if you think this ping pong game of one progressive running against another progressive is actually going to get us anywhere.

Look at this insanity:

How can the DOJ be involved with this?

The Republic is dead, we are no longer a nation of laws.

Funny, we got a lot of non-progressives elected this time around. I don't share your sense of gloom, sorry. I think things can be turned around - but waiting two more years is time we don't have.
