Oh, c'mon. This is a movie, fer cryin' out loud. LIghten up. Are some folks here going to commit hari-kari because Meryl Streep is going to portray a conservative icon?

Streep is one of the few real actresses left in Hollyweird today. Ya want Britney Spears to play Lady Thatcher?

Looking at the two photos side-by-side the likeness is close enough....and like any veteran actress Streep will turn into the Prime Minister before our very eyes.

Really, did Errol Flynn look like General Custer? Who cares! I actually hoped Custer would have looked like Flynn. But Flynn played him to the hilt with zest and flair and hunkiness and darn good dramatic acting....and that, my friends, is why the marvelous bio-pics of the thirties and forties were such a big part of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

(P.S....it's more important to pay attention to what some lefty screen writers write for the actors to say in this movie. As Shakespeare might have said, "Herein may lie the rub")

I agree. Meryl Streep is perhaps the only actress who could pull off the role of Lady Thatcher, IF of course she had a script and a director worthy of the subject.

Which is exactly the point you make.

All the posts now pointing out the rubbish that is apparently the script have nothing to do with Streep’s acting ability (’she’s famous for doing accents’-—yes, like Olivier is famous for saying ‘To be or not to be,’ I guess).

It does unfortunately say a great deal about Streep’s lousy personal judgment and her idiotic politics as well.

Too bad. The Lady deserves more.

Totally agree with you. I think Meryl Streep will give a professional performance.

Regarding "lookalikes", Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter look nothing like King George and Queen Elizabeth but "The King's Speech" has already won many accolades and has been nominated for 12 Oscars.
