MONT BELVIEU (KTRK) -- An explosion has rocked a refining facility in Mont Belvieu today, sending flames high into the air

The Mont Belvieu Police Department confirms an explosion about 11:45am at Enterprise Products on Sun Oil Road.

According to its website, "Enterprise owns a state of the art gasoline additive production facility that has been modified to produce isooctane, a motor gasoline octane enhancement additive used in reformulated motor gasoline blends to increase octane, and isobutylene."

You’re welcome. I drove a 8800 gallon LPG truck back in the mid 70’s and I frequently loaded out of this plant back then. It is a rather large plant as I recall. Prayers up.

He and his co-workers were working at the place of the first explosion and they left for lunch at 12:00.

The first explosion happened at 12:05.

One person still not accounted for, as far as he knows.

The County Judge is speaking right now and he said they don’t know if there are any injuries yet.

Will you be keeping this updated? It's about 50 miles to the West of me and may not get covered locally.
I'm interested in whether they may have been performing maintenance or if this was during normal production.
Turnarounds/shutdowns are when problems usually arise, especially when workers who are hired for such short term projects can't read the English which permits are written in.

He may be told not to talk too if he's a company man so keep that in mind.

Judging from the pic in reply 10 it looks to be a fairly small unit. Additive units usually are.
There shouldn't be too much expansion to other units if they have air operated battery limit valves. They would just shut it all down or, if not air actuated, simply cut off flow to and from that unit.
