"Who woulda thought AP has a Comeback Player of the Year award." Yes, it's been around for decades. It's usually given to players who are coming back from a major injury - like when Marino won when he came back from his Achilles injury - or that have been out of the league for performance issues. I'm positive that Vick is the first player to win it because he was out of the league and in prison. I'm not sure that's what they had in mind when they created the award.
