Perhaps Ben Roethlisberger would still be raping drunk women at bars if he hadn’t been caught. Perhaps there are many people who do bad things that need a proverbial or even a literal slap upside the head from an outside source to show them the error of their ways. That isn’t a bad thing, IMO.
Not punish him? Ok.
But REWARD HIM? For what, serving his time for torturing dogs, and not losing his football skills while in Prison? Is that what we give people “keys to the city” for these days?
I’d rather give the keys to the city to a player who “came back” from a supposed career-ending injury, or a life-tragedy like losing his wife and kids in a tragic fire, or who has a child with a debilitating disease, or whose parents are robbed and murdered. You know, someone who overcomes adversity NOT caused by their own evil actions.
And I say this as someone who is glad Vic came back, because what I look for most in my sports is players who can play the game and entertain me, and he can do that. But don’t reward him for no longer being a criminal. Lots of people stop being criminals after they get caught once. And lots more people stop being criminals BEFORE THEY START, because they think better of it.
Dallas City Hall is a hotbed of stupidity. Former Dallas mayor Laura Miller refused to play ball with Jerry Jones to get JerryWorld built in Dallas, BUT she did get the City Council to sink over $50 million into the aging rat hole that is the Cotton Bowl. Just another example of collosial stupidity at the local level.
I am just glad I don’t live IN Dallas...just close enough to know what’s going on and laugh.
