2 El Paso Students Killed In Juarez(,Mexico)
KVIA ^ | February 7, 2011

EL PASO, Texas -- A car lot in Juarez.

That's where 15-year-olds Carlos Mario Gonzalez Bermudez and Juan Echeveeri Luna, both students in El Paso, were killed by gunmen there Saturday.

Gonzalez Bermudez's mother told our news partners - channel 44 in Juarez - the teens were buying a set of car rims.

At some point, gunmen looking for the owner, opened fire on him and the teens. Gonzalez Bermudez and his family had just moved to El Paso to get away from the violence. He was a sophomore at Cathedral. Echeveeri used to go there, but transferred to Radford.

Something tells me there is a lot more to this story than we'll ever know.

The report says the families moved from Juarez to El Paso to "escape the violence," but it makes it sound like these kids were back in Juarez doing window-shopping at a car dealership.

Yeah, right.

2 El Paso Students Killed In Juarez(Mexico)*

The teens were buying a set of car rims ... from the midnight auto salvage.

At some point, gunmen looking for the owner, opened fire ... the gunmen working for the owner opened fire when they tracked down the missing rims.

Gonzalez Bermudez and his family had just moved to El Paso ... after swimming the river and jumping a fence.

Very sad that these young men were killed. I do have to wonder what a couple of 15 year olds were doing in Mexico buying rims.

It is actually very possible that these kids were legitimately shopping for rims. I live in El Paso and you would be amazed at the trifling things people are willing to go into Mexico for. With the cold snap we just had, one of my co-workers went down there this last weekend to buy copper pipe fittings.

True.

On the other hand ... it is actually very possible that my take was closer to the actual situation ... and in either case, we will probably never know for sure.

Gonzalez Bermudez and his family had just moved to El Paso to get away from the violence

Then why go back?

Probably Juarez.

The El Paso Times says that César Yalin Miramontes Jiménez, 17, was also killed with these two.

The students were killed in one of three triple homicides that took place this past weekend in Juárez.

I find that hard to swallow. The family moved from there because of the violence, then let 2 15 year olds go back just to buy rims? It's either a huge lie or really bad parenting - or both.
